Will you remove some of the obvious fake outliers from the data set? eg. Line 338 on the .csv file is a 99 year old female self-employed, pre-high schooler with 10+ kids working 140 hours per week and earning $1M per year. Sounds a little s

If you go to the bank and deposit $20, you are entitled to get your $20 from the bank. If you fulfill your half of a contract, you are entitled to the other party’s performance. Well, if you enter into a verbal agreement with someone, you

The government thinks they'll receive $990M at $50/oz in tax revenue. That means they've projected to sell 19.8 million ounces, which is equivalent to about 561 metric tonnes. That's a lot of weed... EDIT: from http://www.canorml.org/backg

I'm not a Krugman apologist, and can't bear to read his NYT columns, but he does actually have academic credibility ( even though it is from work he did a fair while ago). This is a good analysis of Krugman's contributions to international

I was rather underwhelmed by this book, which has somewhat blunt policy prescriptions (eg. stop accepting foreign aid, take chinese money, issue bonds, etc) for what probably deserves a more nuanced and considered approach. I think Shanta D

I don't think I've ever met anyone with a consistent perspective on everything (me included). People will accept contradictory premises, especially across different fields, all the time.

To be fair to the kid, he does state that the value is in 2008 dollars. But 27 years on the same real wage is still a stretch.

I've got nothing against her philosophy in the abstract, it's how people interpret it that I have a problem with. The "selfishness" in living for yourself is supposed to be open ended, but often people interpret this as taking as much as th

Economists (eg. Wolfers, Stevenson, Lundberg, Becker, etc) have been looking into the effects of no-fault divorce laws on the rate of divorces for quite a while now (refer to [1] for example). Their general findings are that "the data broad

There's only a paradox if you look at self-education from a vocational / market perspective. I'd imagine most auto-didacts learn purely for the sake of curiosity and the sheer joy of it (eg. it feels good to play music well, even if only to

I'm not entirely sure why a god (or gods) would ever want the people to have a warship. Unless it's used to fight off other warships from competing gods. In which case warship possession is a plausible want for a god.
