I guess now they have a team of software engineers, where part is focused on infra and part on backend. Sys Admins disappeared? They are DevOps/IT Engineers now. QA? SWE in Test, and so on.

It would be interesting to see the split: Out of 83 Nobel Laureates, how many gained their education in University of Columbia? How many were professors that moved to University of Columbia after receiving their education somewhere else? Fo

Use induction cook top? I find it to be much better than gas or regular electric heating stove.

Using intermediate container to build and copy over resulting binaries should work.

I guess depends on the size of the company. How else would you constantly test integrations between different services? Especially if some services can't be easily ran on the laptop. Also if you add terraform/ansible and all that

We have two levers on the tap. One adjust temperature, another flow rate. I can't remember last time I've touched the temperature lever. Just open the flow and take a shower. https://www.hanakat.fi/sites/defau

"The urban legend that DNS-based load balancing depends on TTLs (it doesn’t)" So whats the solution? We are using AWS ALB/ELB and it states in docs, that we should have low TTL, and it makes sense. Servers behind LB scale up

Interesting, I live in Espoo, and usually, I'm hesitant in taking a taxi from Helsinki city center. 20 min ride (17km) costs me on average 45-50 euro. I don't think this is cheap.

I store a bit of data at home (only ~20TB). Really easy to sort. There are plenty of apps that do it for you. This extension with those keywords in filename goes to this directory. Others to another dirs. I only have my pictures and persona

Yes, Amazon is to blame here as well. They shouldn't have offered unlimited service. At the same time, I don't get, why would you encrypt your "Linux ISO's"? Let the AWS dedup do its job, don't abuse it, and ev

I'm not even mad. /r/datahoarders brought this on themselves. Who in their right mind expects to upload 100s of TBs of data, encrypted and pay 59.99?

I can see that templates can get complex pretty fast, but so far we manage it. Big benefit we have - a fresh start with infra about a year ago.

Just wondering here, but why would you use this vs terraform? Given that I can define most of the stuff I need from AWS in terraform and check the state of the infra via plan command, what would be the use case for CLI? I'm actively tr

Not really true, if you move to Finland as EU citizen, you won't get Finnish social security right away. You have to work here to apply for it.

But then where teenagers lived before? In 1960-70-80? At home with their parents. And if parents had middle class level income, their kids would spend money on "toys" same as right now.
