>> Just because someone's an engineer doesn't magically make people throw money at their project. No one said that. It is a lame criticism - focus on whether there is a need for the project, is it possible in the time frame,

Agreed. Cocoa is the most productive environment for desktop development. It is unrivaled.

I think GNUStep already implements the public Cocoa SDK for 10.4. Though I still think the jump to 10.6 will take longer than a year, if that means supporting Core Data, GCD, bindings, etc.

Thats a pretty lame criticism considering the campaign was started by 1 guy who is an engineer, not into marketing.

I doubt very much developers interested in GNUStep are like your typical consumer/game player. They read.

Is the price of $667 a play on what Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak sold the original Apple I for?

Thanks for the advice. You are right, each object is serialized as a JSON structure (freeze dried) and then instantiated when the GUI loads. Definitely that JSON should be editable.

It wont be called Atlas. Right now Im just relating it to Atlas, which like you said is defunct. Im just in the early stages of developing the framework and tools and am looking for feedback.

Thanks. I am going to rebuild Atlas, but not in Cappuccino, in a new JavaScript-only (no Objective-J) framework im calling cupertino.js. Just looking for feedback on the idea right now.

In my experience the public at large is satisfied with Excel/Numbers, while scientists prefer their power tools like R or Matlab. Perhaps you should pivot and build something like RStudio but for numpy.

Is there a monetization strategy? Seems like I see things like this popup every couple months. Is there really a demand?

The only thing slow about Canvas I've found is when the canvas area needs to be resized : i.e. canvas.height or canvas.width changes. Drawing itself hasnt been an issue for me.

Im just saying your giving up a major marketing outlet if you arnt on the MAS. Of course you can go it alone, but since it is a MAC app, that would be foolish.

Correct but if your not on the app store, who will know about your app.

This is exactly why I stopped developing for native. If you want to fix a bug or tweak/add one little feature its a huge ordeal. Plus the 30% tax on non-recurring revenue. I'm glad he's doing mac apps. Less competition in the web space.

I agree with your sentiment, everything is still OK right now. But if I am forced to use Apple's equivalent of a "Metro" interface, I am done and going to Linux.

When Motorola bought 280 North, they also got Atlas. For whatever reason Motorola never continued Atlas/made it public. Most Cappuccino developers instead use Interface Builder to layout the interface and the tool nib2cib to bring it into a
