You've misunderstood. sbt+Scala (as a build tool) + Java is the opposite of Scala+Maven.

A lot of people on the Java side have seen what being able to script your build turns into with Gradle. They've also don't want to learn Scala to do their build.

I’ve had sbt and scala forced upon me for Java projects and I feel the exact opposite of you! Sbt and Scalac are so slow they kill any productivity I could have.

A staffer from the Python foundation? This is how maven central works. Someone physically verifies that you own the reverse domain of your package.

Even without WSL, PowerShell is perfectly capable. I find that lots of people just rag about windows because it’s not unix and they’re trying to force it to be.

I genuinely enjoy programming on windows. Perhaps because I don’t try to force windows to be linux, but PowerShell is genuinely good. The only issues I face are when other developers do non-cross platform things. Like use bash for build scr

This is off topic. But I really hate “services”. They always are just some random collection of functions and aren’t a real object at all.

You genuinely don’t need to think about any of the configurable options, especially if you’re running a client program. At most for server programs you just set the max memory percentage and soon you won’t have to do that.

Isn't Briar all JVM? AFAIK that can't really run on iOS at all since Apple disallows foreign JITs; unless they compiled Briar to native.

I don't really have the energy to debate this, but the Kotlin standard library doesn't use Result at all: \kotlin\libraries\stdlib> gci -r | where extension -eq .kt | where name -ne Result.kt | grep "\): Result<&

One day we’ll get nullable types: https://openjdk.org/jeps/8303099 I believe I read on the mailing list it’s implemented here: https://github.com/openjdk/valhalla/tree/lw5

I agree but I still think checked exceptions, at least in Java, need more investment syntactically. They’re really painful with lambdas and you need to do weird things to get them to work properly; like rethrowing and catching some unchecke

I think the real issue here is the lack of checked exceptions in most runtimes that use them. If you had compiler support for what’s thrown you would know in advance. Java has them, but they haven’t made them usable syntactically so progra

I love exceptions. I also think they’re the best mechanism of error handling, but in my experience a lot of developers just don’t seem to “get” exceptions. They seem to be scared of them from runtime crashes or they try to predict when they
