Yeah I agree advertisers would rather have their ads next to quality content. Publishers don't always have the same incentives while it's easy to fill lots of inventory with at lower prices but make up for it in volume. A fine di

Online advertising is pretty much always going to be a race to the bottom because everything a website does is just a dog and pony show to get people to watch ads. Why bother putting together quality content when churning out clickbait and

I realize this is an unpopular opinion around here... but can anyone explain how they have actually been harmed by this? Like for real not in abstract notions of "creepiness" or whatever. I, for one with Facebook actually figured

I don't know which model this is, but my GE fridge (bought 1.5 years ago) works just fine with a third party filter, and they even include a bypass cap which is just a plastic piece that goes in place of the filter and lets it work wit

This is someone who was in a meeting and decided to go leak something they heard to a journalist. Asking them to recall more than "she used the word grooming" is not a high bar to clear. You can believe whatever you like but it do

Yeah, Google now shows organic results with similar styling with a favicon so you can only tell the difference by the "Ad" shows next to paid ads. Everyone should switch to DuckDuckGo which shows search results with a favicon and

I don't understand why this is on the front page of Hacker News. 100k monthly page views is 139 per hour. Even if you assume the peak rate is 10x the average, that's several seconds per page load. A standard install of WordPress r

It is not the fault of the students who wrote the paper, but this is an exceptionally good example of terrible science reporting in popular media. Practically every sentence of the article is wrong including multiple errors in the title. &g
