While I whole heatedly agree with you, I would seriously question anyone trying to reuse research code in production without completely reimplementing it from scratch.

As a start to using shell I recommend learning (roughly in order): man grep sed find piping and redirect xargs looping Knowing the basics of those unlocks a lot of the power of the shell. You can you them to brute force your way through mo

Depending on the data, the right options for xargs would work, and there's the pr command I haven't used much.

A fun trick is using the `paste` command with process substitution to combine lines of output from different commands. ./cmd1 outputs: a b c ./cmd2 outputs: 1 2 3 paste <(./cmd1) <(./c

In what way are taxes 100% optional? In the sense that using AT&T is optional because I can move of I don't like it? I don't follow your restaurant analogy. Someone can recognize that tipping is harmful to the wait staff, but

You seem to be saying that anything short of living your philosophical ideals is hypocrisy. There are a lot of government policies I think should be criminal, but nobody suggests that my only options are accept the policy or completely deno

Sounds like another celebrity pump scam. Eminem buys the NFT for $450k, Bored Ape signs a contract for $450k for marketing "services" from Eminem, and they'd have a special publicity agreement with the NFT platform to recoup

Software engineering is about modeling the world. Sometimes you need more world experience than modeling techniques. It's important from time to time to take a break and learn something new, otherwise all you'll know is how to mo

I think for most people, especially as they age, change is not comforting. While things may be getting better, that brings about change to many who don't want to deal with it.

If the government can't distinguish between sensitive and nonsensitive data then that sounds like something that should be fixed instead of being used as an excuse.

I had to do the same with uber eats until I stopped using it. They do everything they can to make sure there's no recorded timestamp of when you place an order so it's that much harder to dispute a bad delivery.

I like the idea, and the industry continues to screw over developers, but there would be practical problems to a royalty plan. Companies don't pay once for software, they hire a software team to maintain the code. How would the royalti

To me the issue isn't generally having a dog off the leash, but specifically having a dog off the leash at a wildlife reserve where they may be running around disturbing the wildlife. It isn't a dog park.

Your shell file with a switch isn't going to do incremental parallel builds. If you understand make, your makefile will behave as you expect it to. If you try to read a makefile as a shell script you'll constantly be surprised.
