All that __name__ stuff in Python looks like line noise to me.

Haven't really touched Windows the last 5+ years but adding .NET to the mix sounds a bit complicated in relation to Bash.

Perl scripts can be vastly more powerful than PS. Perl is a full blown general purpose programming language with a massive collection of libs and frameworks. It is however very powerful that Perl can be used in bash pipelines. But that is a

"Using so many symbols to convey meaning as well." Actually as a visually oriented person I find it very helpful. And logical: $ - a single thing @ - a list of things % - a hash (associative array, key-value pair list) \

I'm probably going to try VScode again but it was not there yet for me. Also please bring in full Perl support please!

I know but it's not Vim.. I have been using VScode for the past 6 months and it was a relief to get back to Vim. Productivity skyrocketed since I am not constantly trying new plugins, wrestling with not knowing the IDE well enough, har

It's nicer than Atom and almost feels as snappy as Sublime. But Vim still is miles better when you have put in the work to become proficient. MacVim works great for retina screens and high color support.

Perl 6 is a different language by the way. It is interesting but hardly production ready if you ask me. It would be better if it was called something else but BDFL you know.. Capital letters stuff come from C# since one of the main Perl 6 d

Is Russian the hardest language to read for someone that doesn't know Russian? C type brackets and semicolons are second nature to a lot of people. Perl has a lot of built-in stuff that makes a lot of sense when you have learned it. Yo

Some very petulant pythonista downvoters here. Thinking that no one should have a different opinion than themselves. Actually that profile fits the language... only one way... sad people.

If you like all the things that are positive about PHP I would not touch Java. Rather look into Nodejs or Go. Those Java jobs that pay a lot in the banking sector etc are soul crushing. Slow release cycles and being a very little cog in a b

I'm not really buying into that argument. I have seen Python code that is unreadable, actually a lot worse than 90s PHP/Perl. Take a look at modern Perl please.

Doing non trivial stuff will be the challenge, not the programming language. With that said I think Javascript/front end is more of a moving target and you will constantly need to relearn the same things using new frameworks etc. In so
