I didn't need many cores; but I needed the PCIe lanes. 1900X was perfect for that. I don't follow, how did you figure that my application doesn't use all of its PCIe lanes? Another thing was, that since there were less cores

> Currently, getting a latest Ryzen 5000 APU laptop can very easily last you 10 years or more You never know. I have an AMD TR 1900X CPU (launched in August 2017) in a box, since Windows 11 doesn't run on it.

State-level censors will at first ask nicely to block specific entries for their ip ranges; either the provider cooperates (then DoH won't help at all) or not. If not, they won't have problem blocking entirety of Google or Cloudfl

You can, by pointing your windows to a WSUS for updates. That WSUS doesn't have to really exist.

With USB->DP adapter yes. With a hub offering USB3 ports, mostly no. Once both lanes are in DP-alternate mode (needed for 4k@60), there's no bandwidth for USB3, only the separate wire for USB2. So here it depends how it is internall

The screen blanking with M1 was driving me crazy. I went through untold amount of cables, and ended up with miniDP (on the dock) to DP (on the monitor) that doesn't blank, but only flickers occasionally. The funny thing is that 2015

I'm using OWC TB3 dock, it has the same (1) problem. In the past, I've used Kanex TB2 dock and it was the same. So for the feedback on keypress, I'm using devices with backlight. Both keyboard or mouse work fine, once they li

The distro-provided versions can be slightly different than the Mozilla build. For example, Fedora build is ruled by these principles: https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/1518 , while the Mozilla build is not.

They do indeed claim 16 254,8 kpps. They have l3hw offload - so not every packet needs to go via cpu - and 16 cores.

In this case, I was thinking about moving a currently half a rack worth of equipment from premises to colo, as the (internal) users are mostly on WFH anyway. They would not generate 1 Gbps of external traffic, not even in spikes. Currently,

How long ago was that? I've bought recently newish dual-port (SFP+, 10Gbit) Connect-X 3 Pro at 80 GBP per piece. And that was one of the better prices.

No, SwOS is a simple OS only for switches; it's purpose is to configure the switch chip and then get out of the way. I do not like it, it is configurable only via web. No cli, no api, no ansible/terraform-like automation possible.

Have look at Mikrotik CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS (1G-12S+2XS means 1x1Gbps RJ45, 12xSFP+, 2xSFP28) or CCR2116-12G-4S+ (12G-4S+ = 12x1Gbps RJ45, 4xSFP+), depending how many ports and what kind of routing performance you need (check the block diagram
