Right, I figured something like this had to be in play. But by whom and where is this US week numbering system actually defined? I can see it is probably implemented in Java by java.time.temporal.WeekFields#SUNDAY_START, but there is no ref

That does not explain it. In US weeks more of W53/2020 lies in 2020 than in ISO weeks, but my phone still labels it W1/2021.

Relatedly, I had my Android phone set to the en-US locale. I noticed Calendar was showing 2020 had 52 weeks and all week numbers of 2021 were off by one. I changed to en-UK locale and the issue got resolved. Which begs the question: what on

Cool trickery, but should I ever encounter one of those hex tables in a program I am maintaining, I would certainly hope to see at least the state graph of the encoded machine as documentation.

Fair to call EU big, global and bureaucratic. But with 24 working languages, 27 represented states and 8 official political parties isn't it pretty much the opposite of homogeneous?

Yup, it's the end of the transition period. But UK formally left EU 11 months ago. Unless of course the term "formally" has come to suffer similar inflation and inversion as the term "literally".

I guess it all depends on your definition of "collapse". I would describe a situation where hospitals are overloaded to the point where they have to choose who gets to live and who has to die a collapse. Sources in English are har

Nope, that's what they kind of started saying after the herd immunity experiment failed. Back in May they were still happy to go on record to say that herd immunity was part of the Swedish strategy: https://www.npr.org/

Sweden initially tried to achieve herd immunity. It failed because it is impossible to stop the virus from spreading to the vulnerable population.

Sweden tried this with catastrophic end results. It's practically impossible to shield the vulnerable population from a highly contagious disease that is rampant in the non-vulnerable population - someone after all needs to tend for th

Why would Toyota and VW need to use Tesla batteries? Patents after all expire and are circumventable. And AFAIK Tesla does not hold too much original IP on battery tech to start with.

The theory how to scale up car production is well known, and the established players like Toyota are already masters at that (lean and just-in-time manufacturing were after all invented at Toyota). It's Tesla who's having issues
