This is interesting and also unsurprising. Haskell is an abstract and high-level language and so doesn't dictate irrelevant machine details as C does. The only reason C's considered efficient at all is due to what was effectivel

Surely you see the irony in defending the Chinese government in a discussion about how the Chinese government routinely censors businesses and individuals. Does Ycombinator have any important Chinese business interests? That isn't bul

Again, my positions on empathy and these other things are only being presented in the context of employment. I'm not trying to argue empathy and whatnot in general is detrimental, only in this context. Hacker News was originally Start

You're not cold blooded like a shark. You're a frozen rock. I understand the metaphor you're making, but how was I trying to be cold to start with? Empathy is not a form of capitulation. Solipsism can be a detrimental. Wh

I disagree with your position that a language is good or not based on how people appreciate or use it. You're trying to tell me garbage such as PHP is one of the best languages there is, effectively. In any case, I can still find exam

There are at least ten Free Software Common Lisp implementations and three proprietary ones that are still supported. There are four APL implementations, two of which are Free Software. As for Ada, I've read there are six Ada 2012 co

The Great Old Ones did not have access to any lost mystical knowledge. They at least had the advantage of not being forced to design a language for a failed startup, to be easy to learn where that's defined as resembling C, and other

Not everyone uses languages designed by people with no place designing a language and taken from there. Not every language is PHP, JavaScript, C++, et al. Take a look at a Lisp, APL or a derivative, or Ada for examples of languages designe

If app stores allowed paid version upgrades this trend might not have happened. If the people who purchased this received the source code as Free Software, that would've also solved this issue, don't you think?

I agree with the general idea, but dislike the WWW. I find it fundamentally poor from the start. I'd rather make the comparison to having one's own node on the Internet. I rent a server and I rent several DNS names. Unfortunate
