Absolutely. But the question isn't how ordinary people would perceive it; it was how Rowling intended it. Rowling's goal was to say that trans women are not women. She used a dogwhistle instead of saying that directly. But what ot

Many people would, out of habit or expedience, refer to "women" instead of "people who menstruate." However, in this specific context, Rowling's implication is that trans women are not women. "Most of modern so

If that were true, then you would see significant anti-police violence protests under the banner of "all lives matter." I will happily acknowledge that people who are protesting, or agitating for change, by using that phrase are (

That's a good question. I'm not a lawyer, but I think it would be problematic if Congress could make those decisions. That would allow them to de facto create ex post facto laws by contriving "interpretations" of past la

It would take a ton of bureaucratic overhead, but you could have a system where you could apply for permanent ownership of a domain only after establishing that you're actively using that domain for the purpose of a business or proje

Serious question: is it possible that part of the increased mortality for (type 2) diabetics is a result of high blood sugars caused by this kind of effect?

This looks wonderful, and I bought it as soon as preorders opened; I'd love to have a Linux tablet to read books on and take to work (I'm a teacher, not a programmer). It definitely is pretty low-powered, though, and I'd appr

I'm glad your experience with Ubuntu Studio was positive! I don't know why you accused me of being disingenuous; I assure you I was not. Recording audio in was seamless, as you mentioned. Plugins were frequently unstable, however,

I agree with you, unfortunately. Obviously Linux has a great deal of flexibility, but the basic tools one relies upon for audio editing either aren't there or are significantly handicapped. I once tried a basic project idea on my linux

It's funny; I taught both of these in a literature class for Korean exchange students. (I paired the Declaration with Barlow's song Estimated Prophet.) Fun topic to cover, but I think the students were too cool to feel like cybers

I have this running on my personal computer, my work laptop, and my phone. I almost never have any issues, and I can work seamlessly from any device. It's great. I will also use it to share project folders with other people, and again,

The article mentions one allusion Milton made to Shakespeare. It is possible that we can learn more about what ideas Milton was referencing and responding to in Shakespeare. It gives us more insight into him than into Shakespeare.

I think most of the universities in California have been switching to Canvas. I also use Moodle, which is also FLOSS; personally I strongly prefer the UX to Canvas, but it may be less enterprise-y.

I'd like to see research on this. I have an MA in TESOL and teach ESL, so this is very within my field. While some of what's happening here is basically a self-guided version of classwork, a lot of it seems to rely on very logical

This reminds me of a thought I've had for a long time: it would be great to commission high quality scans of some of these public domain films so that everyone could enjoy some free movies and remix / reedit to their hearts deligh

Oddly enough, PETA’s website does a great job with this. They have a whole section of their site that’s just paid listings of vegan products. It’s actually fun to browse; it feels like you’re in a shop and seeing new things you hadn’t consi
