You can... just not use square (and curly) brackets. Instead of `[1 2 3]` just write `(array 1 2 3)`. Instead of `(fn [x] (+ 1 x))` just write `(f (x) (+ 1 x))`. They are never necessary.

Indeed, on an HP Elitebook with a Ryzen 8840U I get about 20 hours of battery life on CachyOS (but downclocking a bit, with TLP) and the speed tests claim this is like a M2-3. For like $500 (before RAM went up...)

It's a bit harder as Fennel can produce pure functions, whereas basically everything in Janet's standard library outputs mutable structures etc. Janet style tends towards (elegant) imperative programming.

Nice! I recently played around with a Lisp syntax for Go semantics: https://codeberg.org/veqq/Joe As far as JVM-free Clojure-like, Janet is really nice. I've been using it in production for a while: https:/&

APL is booming. There are a fair amount of new jobs onboarding non-APLers. Offshoots like BQN and Uiua have nice communities too.

This interview put me down a rabbit hole exploring tables. Janet recently "got" dataframes which I merged with Lil's query language: https://codeberg.org/veqq/vutils/src/branch/master/

You can just change keyboard settings in any OS? The same way you change from QWERTY to DVORAK you can change to Cyrillic or... But every APL programmer just uses something like deadkeys, typing e.g. ` before another key like `[ becomes ← o

Really disappointing to only learn this after a decade, but on Linux changing from 60hz to 40hz decreased my power draw by 40% in the last hour since reading this comment.

I second this, Tcl is a lovely language in general and quite lisp like. One of the nicest and most unexpected experiences was learning it last year. Tk is then trivial from Tcl, with nice native GUIs being 15 mins away.
