I'd argue that we should listen very carefully to what Germany has to say on the matter, historically, they know and have learned from past mistakes. Also, Facebook has a data center in Finland, which is under EU-jurisdiction. Germany has a

Actually, all the reps would need to do is look at your history. Like "You recently returned a book, can you tell me what book?", and it would be pretty hard to social engineer it from some other source.

I think they used the dot-notation to legitimate it, basically just a brick in the social engineering scheme pulled on the support rep.

You can disable the captcha-feature, as far as I know, and this is just a way to mitigate DDoS. You'd think Google would recognize that you were serving your content via a CDN, it's not like it's something new or anything. And I'm not buyin

At some point, you'll be so big that most large ISPs will want you to install cache nodes inside their network. You - as them - will both save cash because you can relie less and expensive transit traffic and the ISPs customers are more hap

You should take a look at ThinkWiki, they usually have good information on how to get around the little quirks of Linux on a Thinkpad. http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ThinkWiki

Have you actually used any of the products you are talking about? You don't take the filesystem snapshots on the virtual machine, but of the disk image on the host, typically using LVM or something similar. What you want to do with this sna

You talk about edge cases. And you actually have yet to provide any data to back up your statement when it comes to penalty because of running it in a virtual environment.

I might have exaggerated a little, I have no idea how huge the virtual machine park is, but I would argue that they wouldn't invest in Ganeti with full-time employees if they weren't using it internally. During a talk, one of the developers

I think you overstate how much performance hit you get by running things virtually in ex. KVM or Xen. With the first, it's almost negligible, as you don't have to run a paravirtualized kernel in order to gain full access, so for Linux you a

But you'll have to start running pretty fast, as it is very easy to pinpoint the exact location of the sender/jammer. This is also true for any network, not just LTE. WiFi, GSM, HDSPA, etc. Many military vehicles have jammers like this to b

Less naggy? I find Firefox to be one of the most naggy browsers about upgrades. Or have they changed this recently? With Chrome you just see a notification on the settings menu, and a restart brings you up to the next version. I really hope

At some point you will have to trust another part. I could easily use a VPN to another location, but there would probably be someone at that location which would be able to intercept the traffic. The only way to be sure is to use end-to-end

Because they already have my data, no way that they would go through the hoops of installing a device at my home to do it. But I'm not saying that it's a ridicules idea to be worried about. It would be too damn easy to detect.

Not unless you manage to forge a certificate at the same time. It has been done before, as SSL is based on more or less the same level of trust as BGP.

My problem with "e-voting" has never been the security aspect, but how easy it would be to manipulate. Given how even some elections can be, just getting that last 1% of votes (I know the American system is somewhat different, as you need m

A VPN is not a solution, it bypasses the problem temporarily. A VPN provider is no different than any other ISP, they are subject to the same laws and regulations. And you really don't want to be surfing the web with an added 50-100ms laten

If you are interested in privacy, maybe you shouldn't use a DNS-provider that hijacks DNS and give you fake responses? It's a reason that they don't support DNSSec and probably never will. It will kill their business model, which in short i

Another way to get a local cacher is to setup dnsmasq locally or on your router/gateway. I have it running on my gateway and it greatly reduce the latency for DNS-lookups on most things where there is a high probability that another client

I think you don't realize just how big Samsung is. If you're making hardware, it's not like you can just drop a partner like Samsung because of legal troubles in another department. They are huge, and it's hard to replace them over night.

Yeah, that has to be horrible. I remember working remotely from Thailand, and had around 150ms to a linode in Japan, and it was infuriating. Even worse when trying to access services at home, with latency around 300ms. With latency over 30m

Another option is the Linode DNS Manager. They also have a pretty decent (as far as I can tell, never used it, have my own solution) API for managing them. Or you can just do it via the website. As far as I can tell it's free of charge, as

I would recommend checking all certificates on every host locally too, as you then can catch other than HTTP certificates too, like IPSec and OpenVPN. I found a good plugin on GitHub that does just this. If you then just put your certificat
