I agree, some people just believe that they are of a higher standard and should be allowed to act like total dick heads, and the only way for them to learn is if someone from a "higher social status" puts them in the right place. I've seen it all the time, while working the floor at retail, or traveling abroad to fancy hotels and restaurants. A small "thank you", "have a nice day" or just "hi" goes a long way, even if you're there to complain about something.
