The efficiency gain vs time invested is not exponential. It's linear at best and plateaus after about 5k hours. It is this plateauing of the curve that is the biggest reason power Excel users move to R or Python. That was certainly my

It's much more about simulating a server in a VM, than running 4 VMs. And servers need lots and lots of RAM as the kind of database stuff usually run in them (even for prototyping) is usually memory bound not processor bound.

I'm wondering, doesn't the blockchain expend vast amounts of electrical energy to do artificial work just to keep the system credible? And as the capitalization grows, energy consumption grows with it? Isn't this a problem fo

How are 1800 comments in one HN thread post-Macbook-pro launch, an "insignficant sample"? Stats 101. And should we ignore the qualitative evidence that this issue has been picked up by multiple independent sources, including the u

okay try and use any networking library such as zmq, and see what a pain in the butt it is, most definitely refuting the idea that "you can write python 2.7 code if you want". You're going to be polluting your code with .enco

Firstly I did not say half a trillion. I estimated that the kind of investor who will buy into zcash has to believe in crypto upside, and I assumed 10% crypto share of global money supply over time. IE 5 trillion. Second I said, along the s

You need to recalibrate your sense of scale when moving from equity micro to global macro. We're not in the domain of some tech startup. We're talking a venture that takes on the global money supply, 1% of which is 500 billion dol

fraction?? The money supply of the world is about between 30 and 80 trillion dollars. Let's call it 50 trillion. Let's say crypto gets 10% share over time, and these guys get 10% of crypto. That's 1% of the money supply. So..

No 32gb? Is this true? Someone please tell me that's not true. I was (against all odds), hoping for 64! If this is true, consider me disgusted. I had 16GB in my (long lost, loved) 17-inch Macbook Pro, in 2009 ! I really cannot fathom

The nuance though is the direction in which the market moved. On the day, the market went from 20% for Brexit in the morning to 10% by the evening for Brexit. And this trend had been in place for about 10 days (ie Brexit losing ground). So
