You can't compare HN or SO to reddit because they were written by technically competent people who wouldn't dare use python server-side.

If this is the mindset of some people it's no wonder that companies would rather deny the problem and stick their heads in the sand.

I don't need to read the rules to know that the moderation policy is even more restrictive than reddit's and it's therefore not worth the trouble.

The only reason people pay for those things is because no one offers them for free yet. If they did they would be really happy to trade their privacy. For example, Chinese smartphones are full of tracking ads, which is why they are so cheap

But they don't want to. I sure don't want to pay to watch videos on youtube. I'd rather they made a profile of me and stored it to serve me ads that I won't even see.

Not so long ago you could find images with specific sizes. It was good to find screenshots. Also, regarding image sizes in advanced search, I wish the dropdown had the bigger resolutions in pixels instead of MP.

The way I see it as an European is that basically everything China does, the US does or has done, and to me they are both foreign powers. If I don't have qualms about using instagram why should I have qualms about using tiktok.

United States v. Microsoft Corp. happened because Windows stood at 95%+ market share. It hasn't happened again because no platform has risen to that level of market share.
