Absolutely, but this seems hard to attain. For-profit tools inherently have millions (or billions) of dollars to put into not only improving their UX, but also into advertising and making their product viral, sometimes at the cost of users

I really enjoy having copies of all of the content I consume locally. It feels nice knowing that it cannot be taken away from me by anyone. It's there when I lose Internet, it is there if I stop paying for various subscriptions, and

Honestly, I think you would be surprised. Talk to some males aged 14-18 that play video games, and you may find that almost their entire social life and graph is on Discord.

I often have similar thoughts to this - there's very few areas where decentralized software has had a better UX than centralized alternatives, and that is why they haven't had as much success. I think compromises can be made, an

A user would have a difficult time leaving the platform, even if they preferred an alternative, unless all of their friends and communicates also left, similar to why leaving a platform like Facebook or Reddit can be so difficult.

I've been becoming increasingly concerned that Discord is winning a little too much , and will basically end up becoming the Facebook of the next generation if things go right for them. Right now they're still in the fun phase -

The reason I'd personally say it's unfair is because Discord should do their own fair calculations, not just copy what another low-paying company pay may have given before. Discord is valued at several billion dollars, and their l

What a wonderful advertisement for working at Stripe. The impact of long-form well-written essays like this is huge, and fits perfectly with the theme of the essay itself about helping others succeed at scale. I like the personal notes incl

I would say products where the product price is high, the social status of using the product is high, and the profit margin of the product is high. You could add some other details, but I generally think of those things when I use that term
