I wonder how some of the all remote companies handle the legal side of things when it comes to paying salaries and contracts. I've been working as a (partly remote depending on customer) freelancer/contractor for 5 years with my o

I was looking at Helm the other day for merging common base values with per-cluster specific overrides but this looks like a simpler solution and integrated into kubectl.

We switched our staging/dev environments to DO because of cost. A small Kubernetes cluster and hosted Postgres does not cost much there and is very easy to setup. But their hosted Kubernetes and Postgres services are still in “early ac

Yeah, one of my clients ran on OSS Parse for a while too but at the time of Parse.com shutting down OSS parse was not stable at all. In the end we decided to rewrite the whole thing as a Java/Spring/Postgres monolith on Kubernetes

It’s not bad. It picks up some common javaisms and converts those to the more idiomatic Kotlin version. The cool thing is that you can convert to Kotlin on a file by file basis.

I’ve been diving deep into Kotlin lately and I am now convinced that Kotlin is the next evolution for Java codebases and the JVM. It fixes a lot of the quirks in Java with great interop support so we can still use all the jvm/Java know

I like Kotlins solution for this. If there is only one argument in the lambda/block and the type is clear from the context you don’t have to declare it and you can use the ‘it’ keyword instead.

The streams api is a little verbose but this is mainly because of Java’s backwards compatibility policy. They want older code to still compile and run on new JDKs. Default methods on interfaces help to add features to existing collections b

The Spring and Spring Boot teams have done a lot of work on this. IIRC Spring Boot 2.1 is compatible up until Java 11, and Java 12 support should be in 2.2. Some API's are adapted to take advantage of modern Java features like for exam

Try Kotlin with the Spring Boot framework. I view Spring Boot as the Rails of the Java world and the Spring team has done a lot of work lately on Kotlin compatibility and idiomatic APIs. This week I’ve been porting one of my Spring Boot app
