It has its uses in enterprise environments but it takes a special kind of business-y person to setup, configure and maintain. I worked at a small startup with at its peak 30 people (of which 10 in sales/marketing) and we implemented Ne

One of the main takeaways is that it’s still running on a very old version of Rails and JQuery. Maybe not great from a security standpoint but it shows that you do not need a Kubernetes cluster and a big HA setup and a modern language/

It's not about hardline blocking javascript and never running a single line of code. I run NoScript (probably similar to the parent) and block all javascript by default because I don't want anyone else executing code on my machine

I prefer to code one level deeper and I mostly use plain Spring MVC controllers. That way I can still have spring security for the endpoints but it keeps the endpoints more decoupled from the repositories. I typically have a repository gene

I like IntelliJ's "Quick Definition" shortcut for this. It allows me to see the definition of a function in a popup window so I can quickly glance at what a certain function does without the full context switch.

This is interesting. After recently learning Mutt and falling in love with its macros and tag handling I was thinking about implementing a GTD flow based on a local email server and use mutt as the client. This project might serve well for

Check out the control panel on a BMW X3. There are dedicated buttons for navigation, media, menu etc next to the big scrollwheel. Navigation even has two buttons. One for showing the map, one for launching a new location. The screen is touc

So many people in this thread complain about AMP being forced on them as an end user. Nobody forces you to use Google... Just use another search engine like DuckDuckGo. It is sufficient for over 90% of my searches and I haven’t seen an amp

I would like to see a post like this comparing services like RDS or Mongodb Atlas on different instance sizes. For example: what is a typical writes|reads/second I can achieve on a Postgres RDS db.m4.large instance.

This reminds me of the time I wanted to test packet loss for a VoIP app and used `tc` to introduce 95% packet loss on the office gateway and because of the packet loss I could not ssh into the box to turn it off... on Google scale.

Yes, 500 bytes extra but it's not only for the developer discovering the API in a browser. If the client developer is exploring the API and then manually implementing an API client something is not right. Hal clients for this use case
