Author here. The tag is shown not encoded as a variable int (I admit this is not super clear). Its encoded version is 0x9a 0x01. I think this is correct. This the result of (19 << 3) + 2 encoded as a varint.

It depends what you mean by state-of-the-art, but it's possible with dh-virtualenv: https://github.com/vincentbernat/pragmatic-debian-packages/t... (not something that can become an official package as it goe

Use of SSH agent forwarding is dangerous as it allows an attacker to gain access to more key materials to access more servers. Using it casually in an article about SSH security is a bit worrying.

The Youtube video for Perestroika is missing the sound from the intro because the game was skipping it if the CPU was too fast. I remember hearing it on a "Victor" 286 (16 MHz, but I am not sure). This recording has the sound intr

I have a HL-4150CDN and that's true it asks for a replacement after a fixed page count but it is easy to workaround this by resetting the page count ( https://www.inkowl.com/page/tnreset/ ). I am still using it

All LTS versions are using 20.10.12. That's less than one year old. I don't see how horribly out of date this is.

Iosevka, a customizable monospace font, also has quasi-proportional (almost monospace) varients: Iosevka Aile and Iosevka Etoile.

What you describe is the cloud image. You can dd it to your hard drive and it should work as is (initial password will be displayed on first boot). As for Debian, the slowness comes mostly for fsync calls I think. You should be able to use

Firefox also plans to have builtin support for auto-rejecting cookies when there is a consent banner. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1783015 . From my understanding, this should be similar to Consent-O-Mati

It looks like the change is from an upstream software. Homebrew did communicate the change, which is something that I wouldn't expect from a distributor. In Debian, we have the NEWS file to communicate such breaking changes, but it is

Share-nothing architecture were deemed more scalable as you don't need synchronization. But then, you can't share stuff, like a connection pool. Also, the architecture was simpler this way. Nginx is also an application server and

Modern routers are unable to do line-rate regardless of packet size. See for example the Q100 ASIC from Cisco. Rated for 10.8 Tbps, it is only able to achieve 6 Bpps [1]. So it needs 200-byte packets to hit line-rate. However, as for Netfli

Unfortunately, I migrated to LVM later (I think 2006 too), through a new disk (I suppose with tar | tar). At the time, amd64 was just a port.

This seems overly complicated. Nowadays, unstable almost never break (with the exception of files migrating from one package to another without the proper metadata) and I am updating daily. I am curious, are you using testing or unstable?

No /var/log/installer (maybe it was not the case for Woody?) and installation-birthday says 2006 but this is the date of the cross-upgrade to amd64 (using debootstrap).

It's even better (to use unstable) since you don't have disappearing packages, you have access to packages only in unstable (Firefox instead of Firefox ESR), and you get timely security update. 20 years ago, things may break a lot

Another Debian unstable user. It's hard to remember the exact installation date, but I have a `/var/log/firewalld.1` from Aug 25 2002. So, 20 years soon! And it has been migrated from 32-bit to 64-bit.

I don't know if this is a typo in the article, but I didn't know that RP filtering would influence how ARP is working. I think it would be better to solve the problem at the root by asking Linux to be more like other OS with:

You can add a tag to the change you want to keep. Whatever you do, you can recover it (git reset --hard tag). Once you are done, remove the tag. Otherwise, there is the reflog, like mentioned in a sister comment.
