My impression from the slides is that they see it as a financial gain if it frees up the job for a higher performer. No mention is made of why they feel the need to offer severance when they're shedding an underperformer, but maybe they wan

I think you're overlooking the online rentals market. Netflix's original business will die (or be killed) off at some point. They already have a strong presence in the online movie rentals market. It should also be pointed out that they

I'd contend that lately they've gone over the hump that divides "sucks less" and "much improved".

What makes me angrier is that they'd still put ads in somewhere, eventually. I hate the amount of advertising that precedes a movie that I've paid to see. Trailers are often amusing, and I like to know which movies are coming out, but the

Based on what I understand from this presentation: http://www.ted.com/talks/malcolm_gladwell_on_spaghetti_sauce... Gladwell means that people don't always know what they want (or wont be able to tell you).

It's on Apple for explicitly targeting Palm. I'm sure Palm would've been more than happy to update their software in response to any changes by Apple. Apple had other alternatives as far as liability goes. For example, they could've prompt

I used to use that for easier reading. Irony being, now that my Firefox skin and menubar are both black, it just makes them obnoxiously bright. f.lux is wonderful though - lowers the colour temperature based on time of day, so you don't ha

Mixed feelings on the updates, but Microsoft seems quick to patch security vulnerabilities lately. Same topic but unrelated, W7 will fetch and download drivers that it doesn't have installed. I find OS X to be too monochromatic - I've made

It seems that they have the same problem the App Store has now - mixed messages as to what is acceptable, and no clear public guidelines.

Refreshingly honest. I'm impressed to see this sort of viewpoint in the WSJ.

The site looks like a parked domain/spam. I navigated away the first time I loaded the page. You might want to differentiate the design a bit (not sure how).

I could see a hash tool being useful here - maybe even some sort of upload applet that sends the hash too. If the uploaded hash matches the hash generated on your machine, you have less plausible excuses. Of course, you could just use Scri

Consider that most Web 2.0 forms of communication (i.e. Twitter, Facebook and the like) are still closed gardens. Yes, they have APIs, but they still hold the keys and own the technology. Anyone can set up an email server and have it talk

The existing problem (for Jeff) is that it is hard to find modified or improved versions of the same snippet. Whereas a URL points to an inidividual snippet, the GUID could point to different versions. The same GUID could also be used fo

I agree with robryan's point. I also wonder if teaching leaves professors too busy to keep up with the latest trends. Web _design_ might actually be a good course to be taught by a part-time professor who is also freelancing and staying cu
