The parent post speaks of his/her starvation and a partner dying. You make a pedantic comment on his/her paraphrase. You are both insensitive, and you do not know what "paraphrase" means. Also, being a fan of a racist im

While there is no way I'd use this service - I value my privacy to an abnormal degree and am not interested in a hard copy of my journal - I'm baffled by the negative feedback so far. This service clearly is not for me. But to say

Thanks, but you seem not to have read the title, or my search results are different from yours. Specifically Windows laptops do not feature highly in recent search results. It's also untrue that the majority of Windows laptops are SSD-

To slightly modulate the subject: I'd be interested in answers to the same question when the workplace is a home office in a home with wife and children.

Bisby, I just can't understand how you go from a - very clearly to me - thought-through understanding of the nuances of response to targeted banter, to your apparent mind-reading of your colleague's motivations. I'm not sayin

I have to agree with the perhaps inappropriately named logicallee. And I'd go further - it's not just a matter of age, nor (as others in this thread have said) of inability or stupidity, if someone works for a salary under market

Pedantry alert: small typo - "if you can effort it" should be "if you can afford it".

You'd have to have been hiding under a rock the past few decades not to know that "could care less" has been linguistic currency for a long time now.

My point was precisely that neither of us has done this kind of investigation (in a clause you clearly didn't parse, I actually said that I hadn't either), and that in the absence of such large-scale evidence remarks as vague as y

The problem here is that we don't have a fixed definition of this relatively new concept. Your description here of safe spaces as places devoid of controversy does not match up with my experience of encountering the concept in the worl

If by safe spaces you mean places where people of colour aren't subjected to racism, gay people aren't subjected to homophobia and women aren't subjected to misogyny, then I fail to see how any of these types of attack would

You couch your arguments in the language of logic, but are in fact utterly incoherent. Your references to "people" (even if supplemented by "a huge number") mask the fact that your only available real reference is to you

Logically speaking, hundchenkatze's riposte seems best: that hiding and privacy are two different things. Practically speaking, I believe it's impossible to convince most people, including myself, to change their behaviour online.

Yes - but I wasn't quite a beginner. The usual recommendation for adult books for beginners is Schlink's The Reader, though I found it dim-witted. I'd stick with Harry Potter and get a dictionary for an ebook reader.
