Let me know if there’s something I can do to help. Running Unifi on NixOS is a bit of a pain since the license means that there is no binary cache for the package, resulting in frequent rebuilds. I’ve also not had a great time with the mong

Has anyone tried running the Ubiquiti Unifi controller against this? Even stories of it being successful with the Postgres backend would be really helpful.

I’m not affiliated with them in any way beyond being a customer. I work at a giant tech company, and the only money I’ve ever received from fastmail was a referral credit when one friend signed up for their service. I’m a very happy custome

I don't think it is a further restriction on the rights you have. Those rights extend to the code you have, they are only terminating the business relationship going forward. Not a lawyer, so maybe someone else more knowledgeable about

What company. I've seen this being done (and my team does it a lot at Amazon) but curious to know if others are doing it at build time too. If done in a company with a monorepo I'd be especially interested in hearing more

Is this done with a off the shelf tool that I could run? Or did you build this in house?

What feature was removed? I'm pretty fine with a project deciding to remove a feature with known footguns, but curious what it was.

Is work on this continuing (or restarting)? I had heard of this a few years ago, but thought the project was shelved.

Sure; but working at another very large company, I can say I wish we had this. Old unused code is a huge problem for us. The coordination costs of trying to update company wide problems are made much more severe by old code. I wish we had s

I know I’m kind of late to the post, but maybe you or someone else will still see this. Would a scheme like this only work for well known providers (GitHub is done, others could be in the pipeline according to the article)? Does a new hosti

Why Omada over Unifi? Aren’t they mostly the same? Both need a controller running somewhere, and not sure why one would be better/worse than the other.

Looking through the supabase storage docs, I wasn't able to identify if storing to local disk was an option? I know it launched with S3 as a supported backend, but I'm curious to know if this ever expanded. Or perhaps supporting M

I'm reading your book, and have previously read Ian's adventures on Nix. I love the writing style in both of them! It may not be for everyone, but I can appreciate works that use language to make topics less intimidating. Thanks t

This reminds me of my time at Bloomberg. The C++ support from IBM and Oracle/Sun wasn’t nearly up to date, and without a large customer willing to foot the bill to improve the toolchains IBM and Oracle/Sun weren’t going to do the

Have you seen this? It’s a 10W CPU but mostly seems to hit everything you’re looking for. I imagine an Alder lake N version of this will appear sooner or later, and the N100/N200 should give you the 6W part you’re looking for. https:&

Agreed! The N5105/6005 have been remarkable, and maybe they’ll replicate that with the Alder Lake N chips. Chinese ODMs seem to have already started making mini-pcs with the new chips, and I imagine routers will follow quickly. Until A

Some projects don't work with the newer boards (wled for example). Partly this is because the Esp sdks aren't as mature for the newer boards. This is very true for the brand new C6 series, but somewhat true for th S3 and C3 lines

Nix will get you most of this. It's got a learning curve, but I think it pays off and is not bad if you're familiar with the Brazil concepts. Having to set up a million dependencies just to begin to start working on a codebase is
