Features like this desperately need to be an AI-curated but human-driven operation. i.e an AI can aggregate some headlines from the latest news but a human needs to be the one that says "good to go" or "pass" on each. It

Looks like it, it seems the 2% are mostly odd platform specific issues that the authors' did not deem very important (my assumption for the release happening anyway). AFAIK this[1] PR tries to fix them. [1]: https://github.c

The email to the VP of Content & Community is wonderful, it covers a lot of detail and explains plainly why the idea would work. A great example for people wanting to get into freelancing, it's not for every client but once in a wh

Many[1][2][3] open-source projects use GitLab over GitHub in no small part due to the the fact you can host your own instance :) [1]: https://gitlab.winehq.org [2]: https://invent.kde.org [3]: https://code

Another comment mentioned GIMP may have assumptions of bad UX within their codebase which makes me think about long-lived and large scale projects like this in general. The technical debt of GIMP has been slowly amassing (like all projects)

Articles like this one really benefit from some references and footnotes. I had trouble finding sources for the skeletal remains being found with lead accumulation, for example. It is interesting how the author describes lead poisoning as l

QA is a massively underappreciated position. A QA person that knows when to automate, when to manually test, and how to report and file issues relevant to the project can save a significant proportion of hours on a project overall. I wish m

To be fair to the original commenter I believe they were making a Mean Girls (2004) reference. The line in question is "Stop trying to make fetch happen. It's not going to happen.". Likely just a funny quip and nothing seriou

JavaScript itself is not usually the problem (aside from certain fundemental issues). The computational gap between a developer on a M3 Macbook and a person on a used Dell from 2008 is already quite large, meaning what feels "snappy&qu

The paragraph was my exact problem, hundreds of words but the entire world of AI interacting with the world physically is boiled down into an assumption that "by the time we get there, we'll get there". It just doesn't s

I'm no AI expert, I don't have a lot of domain knowledge but what irks me about reading through this entire blog post is the idea that we are hinging on a definition of AGI that apparently accounts for 95% (!) of "economicall

A part of me thinks that our weariness of spending "more" on architecture and beauty in cities is the same kind of weird frugality people experience with day to day goods. My grandparents will endlessly complain about the lack of

How many minutes/hours a day do you spend curating your subscriptions? This sounds fairly exhausting looking at it throughout the day, every day. Surely you'd be able to achieve the same effect curating your subscriptions at the e

Complaining about this as well, I think entering day/month with keyboard is fine but the website completely freezes upon entering year and skips some digits entirely after many seconds of waiting. I'm on an old thinkpad, I get it,

Is this meant to be convincing? If you slowly scroll down and read every tweet you will see a massive repetition of simplified statements and over-promising. "X is _only_ 2 years away" is not very interesting when it's mentio

According to the Bank of England's inflation calculator page [1] 50 GBP in 1875 would be worth around 4,766 in today's Sterling. Not sure how to calculate the true "worth" of the exchange from GBP to USD, though. 50 GBP

All three of the mentioned CVEs are affecting 8.2.1. Even 8.3.0 is affected by 2 of them still. The latest version (8.4.0) is the only one that is not affected by these.
