I feel like part of the problem is that “boomer” culture remains ubiquitous, but hasn’t aged along side the actual people. So people are still excited about, say, the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead (not that the living members themse

We could give them money for that (just to take it away again), but they probably won't produce $50 of value without getting someone else to stay home who also has debts to pay. So I guess this is more of a belief in the value of work

What do you think the meaning of the quote is I guess? One point of the quote is that protection of the concept of private property is a function of the police. It's more of a piece of (I think accurate) neutral analysis with how I

Well the man who said it is a leftist, and was making a leftist point overall. But out of context it is more of a neutral analysis.

There was plenty of hardcore porn tumblr. But I agree, many of people posted softcore on their main blog, but it was rare to see hardcore reposts on someone's discourse blog.

In their post they are contrasting personal ethics vs professional standards (which would pertain to how work is done, I would say). A code of professional standards could say, for example, You have to keep clear notes for decisions made fo

I don't know if there is a way out of that for them. There are probably more people who associate being unfashionable and eating unhealthy snacks with using Linux than an old fashioned hat.

There is a theory about the suicide rate among farmers (which has always been high) that I'm not sure I completely believe, but I don't think it's nonsense. It goes something like: Farmers (well, I'm speaking mainly abou

Lake Tahoe has been popular way longer than you are giving it credit for. It's had tourists for over a hundred years, and Squaw Valley hosted the Olympics in 1960.

I don't know that this hasn't been done already. If you're working on automotive software, for example, you will comply with ISO 26262. Is this the type of professional standards you are referring to?
