I prefer to say “shite removal” after the last half a decade. At least TPB adds value to peoples lives.

If you’re overwhelmed seek comfort in the fact that if you do something then you have taken a step forward. Start with small reasonable things that take ten minutes. They give you the energy and motivation to do the big things. Eventually

My cousin went through a similar thing after a bad motorcycle accident. In his case his dreams were terrible creatures torturing him. I can imagine this sort of experience is where hell and heaven spawned from. He’s now absolutely fine and

I’m still shocked at how much of this crap is connected to insecure networks. Last time I dealt with PLCs which were used on an test automation line was over 20 years ago. And they were airgapped and I actually had to fly to the customer si

Been there done that. Good advice. In my case I could recreate the original file but it took 90 minutes to scrape the remote API to do it again...

Can you actually do an airgapped Windows install these days? I used to work in the defence sector in the days of Windows 2000 and that was easy but I have no idea how it works since. Our corporate stuff is all remotely managed with InTune a

Same as if you have above 500 karma here and someone criticised Microsoft legitimately after Nadella arrived on the scene… I regularly throw accounts out in disgust at the political voting.

I don’t share the same memories. Working around commercial compilers was horrible. I actually preferred NT for a bit around then. Plus I could afford to buy a machine to run it at home. Early days of win32 were quite fun. I can see why it w

Agree with this. Who’d have thunk it that proprietary Unix on RISC is doing better on the desktop than ever though! https://www.opengroup.org/openbrand/register/brand3678.htm

That’s pretty standard across everything. The moment you do stuff because you enjoy it and not to get paid or satisfy other people then your quality of life goes up. This is why I get paid to do something I hate (software eng) and live a qu

Yes you can. You need to use Configurator to do it. It has been confirmed by iFixit. It’s the same as the Mac Pro was: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210626 . You can’t just swap a disk. You have to actually re-pair

Russia isn’t the only player on the board. There’s a whole load of sabre rattling from China which military leaders have been warning about for years. This is some leverage to build a defence strategy against them and other actors too. Plus

Err the monitor has a user replaceable power cord. I have one and removed it fine. It’s different because an IEC lead won’t fit in the design envelope. Even the stand can be replaced. The SSD is also a misnomer. The influencers couldn’t put

Lost an EBS snapshot on AWS once. The only way to provide some assurance in this space is to make sure your data is stored in more than one physically and commercially separate location.

Yep. The iPhone 13 Pro bokeh is miserably bad. On point sources, you're lucky if you can get any out of it and if you do it's got a hole in the middle. Example here: https://imgur.com/a/cPG3YSP
