I had never heard of this device, looks very nice. Thanks for sharing.

It does seem that they put in a lot of effort to construct their device so I'm less inclined to call the engineering part of it a PR stunt.

It speaks to whether it was useful in any capacity. There's also a point to be made about advertising having a solution to a problem without actually having solved any instance of it in practice.

What I'd like to know is whether the custom submarine was used in any capacity during the rescue, and whether the pedophile accusations towards the British diver have any merit. What are the facts in this story ?

Not sure how the article makes the mental leap from "google is limiting free usage to a few thousand views per day" for a system that costs a lot to operate, to "google may hide stuff or change country borders at will".

There was this [1] a few years back, not sure what happened to it. [1] https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=%23&ved...

Not sure I agree with the lenovo equals RIM comparison. By the way, lenovos had an oled bar on top of their keyboards but removed theirs when people said they didn't like it.

I think that would be horrible. Yoga book has already brought this idea to market, and typing on it is a nightmare.

There are still dirt-cheap gadgets [1] that you can make before going for a liteplacer. [1] http://vpapanik.blogspot.com/2012/11/low-budget-manual-pick-...

Netflix is nowadays more of an original content creator rather than a distributor. In this context, I don't know how big of a company they truly are. Their 2017 profit was $245 million. Compare this to, say, the $1 billion Warner Bros

I agree. Amazon recently moved to a Netflix-like interface, likely for similar reasons, a pain to navigate compared to what they had before.

In fact, we have an oracle that separates P from NP and another through which P=NP. This is why tackling P vs NP via oracles is an abandoned strategy.

Neat looking. This may be useful for search discoverability also. Not all engines enable javascript and for the ones they do, it is probably not enabled for all pages, so they'll end up parsing "clean" markdown.

Echoing the feeling on the ending. I finished it ages ago but never knew there was a sequel. Wonderful game.

When the antikythera mechanism was recovered, it was embedded in a lump of mud. Nobody realized what it was so they left it in storage in a museum until a long time after, when the lump, now dried up, broke into pieces revealing its secrets

That's 16Gbits. They either have 2 dies per chip or there is another set of 8 chips on the other side of the PCB.

Is this true? From the article: ''ska::flat_hash_map has a max_load_factor of 0.5''. ska::flat_hash_map is the author's implementation (but maybe not the most recent iteration ?)

To be fair, the max load factor for this hash map is set to 0.5, which is quite wasteful in terms of memory. If you allow for 50% load in dense_hash_map (and most hash maps for that matter,) they become much faster themselves.

Not always, but take a look at this recent comparison between modern radix trees and hash maps [1]. [1] https://bigdata.uni-saarland.de/publications/ARCD15.pdf

If we were talking about the worst lookups, then even in the RAM model they would become slower as the map grows. To be more specific, if you place n balls into n bins, on average each bin will contain 1 ball, but the largest one, with high
