I think the parent's argument is that, since they only evaluated their algorithms on sorting arrays of 32-bit or 64-bit integers, it is fair game to compare against integer sorting algorithms for which we have better complexities than

The problem is not the cost, it's the experience. You _could_ be carrying multiple laptop batteries with you also. It would make the laptop itself lighter and thinner, but it would be a larger hassle overall.

That's an arbitrary over-generalization. I'm sure first class was carrying blackberries long after 2007.

It seems like you've been burned too many times with these issues. I'd be curious to know what you have built / brought to market and what you think about this rule of the retail price being 3 ton 4x the BOM.

Eytzinger layouts are great, but they require more space if one is not allowed to touch the original sorted array. Then again, if you are allowed to use extra space, binary search can be implemented in worst-case constant time for integer a

There exists a 2022 CPPcon presentation covering efficient binary searching, which includes Eytzinger layouts [1]. [1] https://github.com/CppCon/CppCon2022/blob/main/Presentations...

Reads like a great summary for the hash map ideas that work in practice. I would have loved to see flat_hash_map<> thrown into the benchmark mix.

It seems that revenue-wise, Yahoo is growing from ~$5bn circa 2016 (Mayer times) to ~$8bn now. That is impressive. It is also a bit sad to see the Yahoo buildings, which Google bought in 2019, just sitting empty and unutilized.
