A better approach would be a solution based on an Allwinner V3S or S3, since they have DRAM embedded in them. For example, the Lichee Pi Zero [1] is 45mmx25mm (instead of ~25mm^2 for the VoCore) but with a USB and a microSD slot on the PCB.

Given the aggressive response from this company, it is less likely that it will become the target of any security researchers in the future (who wants the hassle ?). That by itself makes their app less secure in the long term. Also, who

The article makes the argument that it is easier to query vector spaces when your database already supports them: why use an external vector db when you can use pgvector in postgreSQL ? That is a fine argument if you don't mind that pg

So, until Oct/15, some poor planet with intelligent life in our galaxy will be thinking that an alien civilization is trying to make contact.

I think the author didn't procrastinate enough: the math equations, the plots and the figure legends are so late 20th century.

That's exactly what LLaMA's answer warns you not to do: a LLaMA alignment dataset does not imply a Meta alignment dataset.

You think Chrome has ~62% market share because ..Meets has blurred backgrounds ? If anything, it is impressive how Chrome has managed to be the majority browser, given that by default we get Edge on Windows, Safari on MacOS/iOS and Fir

Threads reached 100M users in 4.5 days. That is ~30% of Twitter's user base. ChatGPT reached 100M users in 2 months.

The original problem was working on strings that only hold 's' and 'p' characters, as seen in bench.c. The first implementation checked against 's' and 'p' specifically, and all subsequent version opt

127 is 128-1 or 2^7-1, or 1111111b (in binary). It is a faster way to compute n%D when D is known to be a power-of-two. n>>7 is equal to n/(2^7), and is a faster way to divide with a power-of-two.

ANDs vs cmps seem to be a mixed bag. They are faster on my older Broadwell system (E5-2690V4 / 128GiB RAM) but they are actually consistently slower on my Rome system (AMD EPYC 7B12 / 512GiB RAM). Of course, neither Broadwells nor

The string can only contain 's' or 'p' if you examine how it is constructed in bench.c, and taking that into consideration yields another ~2x speedup.

Bummer! Edited the answer. Not sure about the off-by-one though. Say the string is str[] = "spp\0". n = strlen(str) is 3. In the end, res would be 1 and 2 * res - n == -1.

Indeed. I suppose the two lessons are, stick with C, and don't forget the semantics of your original problem when optimizing. int run_switches(const char *s) { int res = 0; uint8_t tmp = 0; size_t n = strlen(s);

Granted, a Surface Go 2 won't win any perf competition, but even with infinite budget you still couldn't buy a desktop today that has the response times of that NT box.

I've read this doc many years ago, and I remember it was worth the time. If folks are contemplating on what has changed since 2007 that this doc is not covering, I'd say it is CCX awareness for AMD CPUs.

There are many such algorithms. For example, [1] is expected linear time, deterministic O(nlglgn) time and linear space. Note that the proposed ML (micro-)algorithms rely heavily on the fact that they are sorting 32-bit or 64-bit integers b

not with radix sort, but you can do better when your elements are integers, even if there there are a lot of them, i.e. even when n ~ 2^32.
