Maybe "plenty" need healthcare but all of them need housing. This sounds like some boomer whining about their issues and pretending to care about millennials.

Honestly fuck the medical system, young people don't care. Housing is what's really getting us. Some days I feel like driving up to McLean and burning banks down. EDIT: I'm out of comment quota but dymk I'm so tired of h

TBH CS degrees don't really produce people who can code in general either. As far as I can tell they take people who already understand the basics and teach them to formally communicate.

I hate Amazon as much as the next guy but IME international Amazon and US Amazon are completely different things and aren't really comparable, they just have a similar GUI. US Amazon has nearly any consumer product you'll buy (fro

Apparently this guy came up with some pretty goofy optimizations like switching in and out of thumb mode to reuse the extra register file along with more "normal" stuff like self modifying code. I don't think there are any co

Adjustable rate loans. People lose their life savings and credit over nonsense all the time with those. Now you have al these YouTube "experts" telling eachother to take HELOC loans to buy investment property.

Japan still managed to keep a lot of their culture and demographics intact. When the US enters the decline it's going to be much much more serious.

The US is absolutely not following Japan. Japan has almost no immigration while the US practically has no borders. Our birthrate is also much closer to replacement levels than Japan. Because there are more (and growing) people chasing fewer

Amtrak is actually pretty great in the coastal part of the mid-north Atlantic region, I ride it very often. Pretty much everywhere else it's useless. In most of the US cars are very much the only option (no you can't bike on a 5

At long last a decent OS for Galaxy S3. I wish I had kept mine. It doesn't say whether it's the European or American version though.

People bitch about crypto all the time but I never hear anything about these contracts with adjustable rate loans. Those should be illegal; they lay people out. With crypto you only lose the money you put in.

At least here the rates going up now means renting is cheaper than owning and the price have barely moved.

Maybe long term trends are but short term there's so much inflation the mortgages aren't a big deal. There's no sign of immigration being slowed down either so I'm not even sure the population will stabilize without some

Because the prices have been so high all of people's wealth is tied up in their homes. It won't happen though unless there's already widespread violence.

Not going to happen (unless we enter an extremely disintigrative/politically unstable phase where you don't want to live here because there's too much violence.) We're bringing in/birthing more people than we'r

Yeah they're almost all siloed or they have the problems I've mentioned. The way Apple has decided app architecture must work forces this on everyone. I've spent a bunch of time (way more than I would have liked) looking

Yeah I mean GNU/X11/Linux obviously. I don't always want to write it out because most people know what I mean. The Android userspace is actual garbage. It's very heavy and the UI paradigm means you're sitting starin

Apps suck. iOS is a treadmill and you have to maintain app specific infrastructure to send push notifications with them. It's very expensive (in terms of time) so volunteers don't do it. This pretty much guarantees any apps with

If they can't figure out how to use their phone that's not my problem. I just want to be able to use decent chat apps/services again without half the people in the group complaining bout their iPhones.

So we can have open source chat apps again. Only organizations can publish chat apps for the app store and it's resulted in a massive regression in IM app quality over the past decade.

Hopefully they'll just force everyone to federate with XMPP again. That was pretty great and now we have OMEMO so it's even E2EE.

Collectivism requires some amount of nationalism. When everyone in charge treats your country like it's just an economic zone you're not going to have that.

It's easy to get your data out but what code review tool do you replace it with? Unless you have a email/patch style workflow (who does these days?) that's going to be extremely disruptive.
