I never argued it was xenophobia - it's that geopolitical factors (S. Korea strong ally; China rival) are heavily influencing this decision. I definitely agree that the numbers are being less massaged in Korea than China, but there

Hubei is ground zero. China has locked the province down and other provinces are doing better than South Korea, Italy or Iran at this point. The ban was justified weeks ago - less so now. Why is South Korea, etc. not under similar travel re

At this point, the voluntary self-quarantines if you came from China (ex-Hubei) aren't even defensible for health (as opposed to political) reasons. Or at least they aren't defensible if you believe we also shouldn't be quar

Your timing was good since you bought when the market may have been mispricing volatility. Assuming these are puts, a lot if your gain is from the volatility shoot up. At this point, the market has corrected volatility pricing dramatically

Just look at Diamond Princess. 4 deaths out of 700 infected after testing everyone with many still not recovered. That's way deadlier than a regular flu. Are you also aware that seasonal flu doesn't completely take out medical s

It's basically a version of flu that happens to be both 20x as deadly and more transmittable!

You are forgetting that highly aggressive measures are put in place to fight SARS. If you did what China is doing now to deal with flu, you'd drastically cut transmission rates.

I'm not understanding your conclusion at all. In an environment not taking precautions above normal flu season, the r0 for covid-19 is significantly higher than flu (2.6 vs 1.6) - in part because we have partially working flu vaccines.

I generally agree on this working out well. As nits though: 1. This simplifies things like crazy, but could have all sorts of spill-over effects. (most notably reduction in charitable giving) 3. AMT, yes. NIIT is only another tax bracket th

Most people are solidly in standard deduction territory after TCJA. If your income is entirely W2 (any stocks sales if any are in tax advantaged accounts) and you take the standard deduction, generally your taxes can be automated easily. Th

Well not quite. If a startup offers me $800k in equity over 4 years, I'm fully invested. If it doubles in a year, I'm now earning $400k in equity a year for next 3 years rather than $200k. (I recall my investment) If it dies after

Agreed on later stage; disagree on need to be that high level. High growth companies are actually better for lower leveled engineers as they can grow faster.

Correct - this allows you to get QSBS treatment on your stock - a huge tax win. The better startups will even loan employees "money" to exercise.
