Really? I've rarely not gotten feedback on rejection - some companies outright issue it, though for most I have to ask. On accepts never because people worry about awkward future colleague relationships.

I've definitely interviewed green candidates and would be very happy to interview them again in a few years. (This is going to be more true in companies with more selective hiring bars) Regardless, brand matters as well. You want candi

Cash is not equivalent to stock. Stock has a higher expectation since you can invest unvested stock but not unvested cash. Hell, a stock offer is something like 30% more valuable than cash over 4 years, though obviously riskier. This is als

To my sibling point above, an $80/month gym is a really damn nice gym. Even a 24 hour fitness super sport is only $52. I agree that if you want to live on the high end, $300k might not be sufficiently high end. But it's still hi

Spending $14k/month is luxury living even in the Bay Area. 1. Your housing numbers are "luxury" prices. (those are generally numbers you see in say SOMA). 2. Having a car in SF in such premium neighborhoods is a further luxur

That's actually a much better analogy. Companies at high scale can achieve higher productivity per developer every year. Not at high scale? (say a one-off consulting project). Sucks for you -- labor market is surging from the high sc

Can you define what "risk premium" means here? I can't tell if the argument here is that the market isn't competitive or something else. It's not like FAANG pays high salaries because they are generous.

This article effectively is saying that if the demand for developers falls that salaries would fall. Which is obvious to anyone who has taken econ 101, but I have no idea how this is anymore of a "risk premium" than anyone else w

Certainly high ROI ones (say not building new coal power plants), but definitely not the lower ROI interventions. Nor is cost net negative if you use high discount rates and try lower co2 targets (e.g. 3 degrees warming by 2100 is much more

We've solved plenty of problems at scale; think ozone layer depletion being reduced. The problem with climate change is that it is really expensive to fix with highly uncertain costs to do so.

Well, economic situation is your income less expenses. For a lot of people the Bay Area is maximizing this. But we're taking a huge social loss (as a nation) by making it so expensive to live in the area that offers the greatest oppor

Well, sure you might get a home from your parents when you are in your late 50s or 60s. Doesn't do much good when you needed that larger home to raise your own family.
