Yes, this! We spent so long (and rightfully) worrying about what it was doing to our kids, we forgot that there was a whole other generation equally unprepared for this.

You’re a braver coder than me if you trade off potential errors in a massive pipeline of browsers, DNS, cache servers and proxies just so your code looks a bit neater! (EDIT: But this is a welcome, interesting post, just to be clear!)

It would be nice if these comments were used to discuss this specific article rather than becoming a general dumping ground for unannotated brief announcements about what monitor somebody uses. What’s particularly frustrating is when a comm

You don’t sound very tech savvy yourself to be honest! Well, certainly not security conscious or in anyway concerned about data privacy.

I don’t think that’s as crazy as you do. Corporations are supposed to have checks and balances in place, safeguards, policies. Individuals might have none of these.

The author of this article just hasn’t been taught how to use a dictionary. The words aren’t “missing”, they’re just indexed under one of their parts. For example “wait upon” would be located within the entry for “wait”.

EDIT: I couldn’t have been more wrong — all three have TLDs. Not really sure if they are being used for much though! Most of the action still seems to be on their .com domains

Weirdly if you browse to nic.apple there is a link on that page to “Whois for .apple” which points to http://whois.nic.apple/ which seems to be dead.

Any idea why Google and Microsoft and Apple don’t yet have TLDs then?

Thank goodness for that! I thought I had actually made a genuine grammatical error, not some weird BS you made up to try and sound clever.

You have to wonder what’s actually going on under the hood when the curve of the hitbox is different to the curve of the window? I’m very curious to understand how Apple have got to this point.

Massively hostile. They have effectively forced me to choose between a less secure phone or one with a terrible UX. FWIW I’m sticking with the less secure one that doesn’t look like Windows Vista.

Hang on, where are the equivalent 18.7.5 patches for my iPhone 13 Pro? I feel I should be at least given the security patches if I don’t want to update to Apple’s widely derided iOS 26 UI awfulness.

The title should be Google handed _over_ these things. Otherwise it reads as though they were handed _to_ Google.

I was surprised to hear that the GUD protocol is both upstreamed and also undocumented. Can anybody corroborate this?

As others have said, I suspect you've just grown accustomed to its quirks and defects and learned to work around them. For example... * always refresh X before doing Y. * if you see this signing error, clear this cache. * don

Used XCode in anger from 2011-2016 to develop an iOS app with several million users and found it to be just as awful and temperamental as others here describe.

This feels a bit harsh! I get the impression that the author considered their project far more carefully than this, especially given the Ben Kuhn blog posts they say that they were inspired by.

There’s something really lovely about this project - especially as they’re using the last kernel from May 2025 before x486 support was removed. It feels like somebody lovingly mending their car for one last time or something similar. (I’m t

If you’re honestly OK with the maths Trump used to calculate the trade deficits then I’m not really sure you’re going to fit in here at HN.
