Exercise, sleep, modest portions of good food, rewarding hobbies. Not that any of it ever permanently fixes my deeper issues with anxiety or depression: I have to run/exercise every morning to feel really good and ready for the day. Bu

Very rough estimates say there are ~6 million Americans with Chron's or Ulcerative Colitis, none of whom have ANY business drinking ANY amount of alcohol. That's just one group. There are other groups, I'm sure, but that'

Sit ups can be really hard on the spine, even if done "properly". You slip a disc in your neck even slightly while working on your abs, and you won't be working on your abs or anything else for a long time. Slipped discs can

This is great. Except that my company started outsourcing all translations to another company, for legal/whatever reasons.

I had someone from Google Recruiting reach out to me Friday. I wonder if he knows about the hiring freeze.

A lot of it is just old school grifting techniques adapted to the latest tech. The whole thing is still (temporarily) unregulated, and somewhat akin to the CA gold rush, where the stores that sold mining equipment made most of the money, bu

My wife's mother just died of cancer after being in remission for many years. Her suffering over the last 9 months of her life was sometimes extreme, and the impact of her death on all of us has been profound. I never suspected I would

Just my own one little bit of anecdata, but I credit my handful of youthful psychedelic experiences with having shown me that it was possible to feel anything BUT anxious and depressed and afraid of the world. As a young dude with a lot of

I am quite curious to know what percentage of working devs ever write tests at all. Because I don't think it's the majority, based on my own professional anecdata. But I've not yet been convinced that any of the various polls

Wonderful show, with wonderful hosts. I can't recommend it highly enough. It's one of the many pieces of entertainment that should be far more popular than it is, but instead most people choose whatever the heck is going on over a

It's been a long time since the bank foreclosed on my boyhood farming days, and I have been as far away from tractor news as possible ever since. Is nobody else making tractors anymore? I remember John Deere tractors being the very cre

Super job! As someone currently studying this stuff, this is a gold mine. It's hard to interview in this field if you didn't get a CS degree, and this sort of gesture is forever appreciated.

Dapper is a great tool for getting an app started and up to speed, and even later once the app gets bigger if sometimes it makes sense to bypass the ORM and hit the DB straight-on.

SSMS is not fantastic, IMO. JetBrains' DataGrip is significantly better, and works with all the extant SQL implementations. We can definitely debate the SQL implementations themselves, but DataGrip makes tooling a non-issue.

Ha! "Out there" is just par for the course with PKD.... Read "A Scanner Darkly", if you haven't already. That's one of the supreme weird tales.

I've had a few dinners at really good sushi restaurants, small spots with the traditional 2-3 chefs working behind the sushi bar. Those were some of the best meals I ever had. You would definitely be able to discern the difference. It&

Actually, the same data indicates that jQuery is around 45% market share as the primary front-end JS tool. That's almost exactly the market share of both Angulars and React combined. And yes, this represents a steep drop-off in the num
