Seems especially silly as there’s a real business use case here, for people who made apps using Flex. Not sure how many companies actually still depend on that but it was definitely a thing for a while there. Surely much better to focus on

Depends if that large corporation decides the direction of their work. Social good isn’t guaranteed in perpetuity.

> Better AWS pays for Rust development than if noone would. That feels like a false choice, though. Rust is popular enough that surely another company (Fastly, for example?) would have good use for such a talent. But I doubt they can riv

I’m consistently surprised by how bad Amazon is at this. Admittedly this might be because I’m in NYC and there are multiple distribution centers but even when I specifically choose to have things bundled up and delivered at once on my “Prim

I didn’t downvote but IMO “the way to get this working on your expensive laptop is to buy another entirely separate computer and have an always on internet connection” isn’t really an answer (and isn’t at all specific to the M1).

That's difficult. Living standards are much higher than they used to be. Should they be restored as actual usable apartments? If so you're going to think about the heating, cooling, the insulation etc. etc. etc. Should they be res

Ahh I misread. Even still. Directly injecting the password in the source of a JS file for the purposes of checking authentication? That screams naive error to me.

If I was making an intentional back door I wouldn't make anything that stupid. The super-secret password is "password123". Maybe you have more faith in developers than I do because this sounds exactly like a dumb mistake/

What would Google index? Can you even decipher the contents of a SWF to get keywords out of it?

What does the "war against URLs" even mean? Sounds like it could be one of two things: 1. Chrome only showing the domain in the address bar No, I doubt it'll make any difference here. Google's reasons for doing that are

It sounds like AMP will stick around, serving as the easiest way to guarantee a great Core Vitals score (because it's so locked down), but that you're welcome to find other ways to get a great score yourself. Which is how it shoul

JSX is a templating language too. Yes, it's intertwined more easily with JS but it's still a syntax you have to learn. As someone that used plenty of such languages (Handlebars, etc) in the past, and still does today.. people make

It seems like they're just not placing big bets now. Creating an entire new programming language is a big bet, one that I'd argue already looks like it's paid off, but Mozilla has decided their future is as a much leaner comp

I’m really struggling to imagine how I’d ever get the value for money out of that. $299 is an extraordinary amount of money compared to the monthly fees I’ve ever had to pay for internet. I moved not so long ago and had to switch providers,

In my area FIOS is the reason. Verizon finally rolled it it out and as if by magic existing providers suddenly found a lot of bandwidth in their back pockets.

That wouldn’t be true either. I’m no historian but things like the SALT treaties would surely be examples of working with the USSR (and giving them “an inch” in the process).

I don't know about that. Pretty much all cross-platform solutions are a rounding error compared to the first-party Swift/Java platforms. I can believe there's potential for another yet.

My point is that all of this is gut reaction to a headline, not a nuanced analysis of vaccine efficiency, roll out plans etc etc. Things could turn right around again once those details are resolved.

I am absolutely understanding why Zoom would drop on good vaccine news. It’s not a complicated connection! My point is that the market overreacts to every piece of good or bad news, then settles down as the full implications become clear. T

The markets seem to wildly yo-yo with every piece of negative and positive news. Case in point: Zoom is currently down 10% but I’ll bet it will have rallied by the end of the day.

I’d be surprised, given that one of the big arguments for using Electron is that you get to write it in JS. If you write Rust for WASM you could just use a native UI framework and target that instead!

The Pulitzer focus on the individual journalist has a lot to answer for sometimes. The amazing stories Greenwald wrote were all edited by an editor that helped refine, focus and potentially correct mistakes. Would he win a Pulitzer for a pi
