Non-AAA games seem like a huge target as well. Just look at the Steam store. The web would be a really interesting medium for indie games.

One recent innovation that (IMO) hasn’t got much attention is OffscreenCanvas. Even with WebGL, JS has been sorely limited by the fact that it’s single threaded. OffscreenCanvas lets you pass a drawing context off to a separate thread, or m

I really don’t think that’s true at all. Just think of all the spreadsheets out there in the world: they aren’t programming by the strictest definition, but they have most of the components. To me, programming is simply an acquired skill. T

I have been really happy with a HomeBridge and HomeKit setup. The only downside is the eventual hardware: for various boring reasons I was forced into getting Lutron smart light switches, and they require a hub. That hub has a Telnet connec

That’s your personal experience. But I can guarantee that if you rewind a few years you’d be able to find many people who would say that Snapchat gave them the kind of experience Instagram never did, or whatever. Snapchat was huge. TikTok

It was a huge story yesterday that Trump has said he’s going to ban it. And while it’s not clear exactly how they’d ban it, it certainly isn’t impossible. They could tell major telcos to block IP ranges. Or tell Apple and Google to pull the

Couldn’t you have said the same about Snapchat a few years ago? Not that it’s about to shut down, but it’s definitely not the white hot app it was hyped to be.

This is maybe a slight tangent, but it’s made me reflect on how much had changed since the Napster era. If it launched today then Apple and Google would pull it from their app stores immediately. That kind of central control simply didn’t e

I don’t think this is a particularly helpful path to take the conversation down. Both Trump and China can be threats to democracy, we don’t need to play one off the other to make one look better by comparison.

In many ways Windows Phone came out at the wrong time (i.e. way too late) but it felt like a real sweet spot for UI. Android had stalled out on 2.x for a year or more while they focused on tablet UI (woops) and iPhone was starting to feel v

It's surely not that simple. Android allows Google to gather all kinds of location data that makes Google Maps much more effective, not to mention advertising. I doubt that gets categorised as Android profit.

There’s a difference between “regulation is a good reason” and “the regulations that were created are good”. Taxi medallions is a good example: NYC streets were flooded with taxis and it was slowing down traffic. And there weren’t enough pa

That’s a very easy thing to say when you’re not the one on the receiving end of these “transient problems”, though. Would you tell a homeless person to their face that their poverty is a shame but it’s the price we need to pay for progress?
