I'm not impressed with Namecheap over this. Suspending people's businesses over a missed email is outrageous. What other business requires users to validate their identity so frequently? Not my car dealer, not my dentist, not my w

It may seem, but I would bet that Google takes freshness into account, preferring 1 year old content over 8 year old content...

I think Metafilter needs to spend more time exploring SEO and perhaps a site redesign. It may be a great site (people say it is), but if it has a poor backlink profile, stale content, and a high bounce rate, it's not going to rank as w

I don't think anyone can use the Internet in any normal way (email, Facebook, Hacker News, CNN.com, anything) without leaving a trail that can be tracked. Anything that can be encrypted must be decrypted at the other end. How can you u

If the NSA can track the request from your browser to the adsense/doubleclick servers, then they can track where you go around large parts of the Internet. I didn't get the sense they were saying the NSA made Google make that cook

Before you dismiss it so fast, the question of how can a person live on $7.25 an hour still deserves some thought? $1,200 barely enough for rent, food and a bus pass. Maybe $25 is too high, but $7.25 is low.

There are generally two types of electronic conversations in this world: conversations that are meant to be in the moment, like text messages, FB chats, HN, or Twitter, and conversations that you want to come back to long into the future, l

The Twitter Streaming API allows you to track up to 400 keywords. For most businesses, that seems like enough. Or if you need 1000, you simply need 3 accounts.
