At first I thought this was going to be like "write the manual first" a la Fred Brooks. But it actually made a great point. Yesterday for the first time I read pg's outstanding growth essay http://www.paulgraham.com/growth.html which co

I have no doubt that this near-slavery condition will always exist, but that doesn't make it right. Confederates before the US Civil War argued in favor of slavery, and some of the arguments weren't far off from that thinking. http://www.

Great idea! Do we get to pollute the local ecology and go totally-hands off to let the businesses exploit the workers, too? Maybe a little child labor here and there? I'm envisioning the 21st century version of The Jungle http://en.wikipe

The sensibilities for everything you just said are entirely subjective, and change as you are exposed to them. If you spend all day every day writing SQL, it is different than if you do it a little here and there. The entire codebase of Or

I prefer a cluttered page that the users know how to use, to a clean page they don't realize they can edit. I also wonder what the best practice is here. The shown solution is fine for internal tools, but not very good for a site designed

It's ok to use one letter variable names when the letter is mere notation and doesn't really mean much. In this context, it's somewhat analogous to 'self' all over the place in Python, and idiomatic.

Deadlines are not artificial. If you screw around long enough, various real world things happen, such as your competition leaving you in the dust, your product becoming irrelevant, customers not caring any more whether the problem is fixed

Here's some intelligent behaviors that can be simply modelled as entropy: http://scalablegamedesign.cs.colorado.edu/wiki/Collaborative... That's a very simple model that can be used, in that example, to make a number of ghost agents work

Seriously, good job. Why is it so hard to be honest with customers once a company grows past a certain point? Does the money corrupt, or am I naive, or both?

Interesting. Do we have the same situation with gold? Continuous deflation, caused by constant supply combined with increasing demand, causing its value to rise to infinity? How is gold different?

Soreness is seriously not a problem. That's because you start with (the very humbling) empty bar, and add only 5lbs each workout. Eating is key-- the progression and ease of working out is noticeably easier when eating a lot of protein.
