It's also slow and difficult to cache build artifacts which makes it immensely painful to debug if you have anything of moderate complexity. Allegedly there's a way to cache image layers and artifacts on Github. I've taken to

I have a question for you, and the peanut gallery. If you hold this opinion - how many venture-backed startups have you personally been employed by? Because I see this attitude a lot, but as someone who has worked primarily at these enterpr

More small/medium sized businesses should be on board with this too. No one likes dealing with insurance companies/plans.

If I ran a popular consumer facing service, I would definitely not be inclined to provide a developer API. That's a risky business proposition. And as a startup I wouldn't hitch my business to a developer API on such a service,

Any business decision can be nefarious in some context when it's a bad one. At the same time as recent events may call certain buybacks into question, historical events tell a different story. For example a common argument to ban buyba

Buybacks are just dividends but more flexible for the company. It boosts stock price because it tells investors that the share is more than a speculative vehicle. Returning value to shareholders isn't nefarious.

There's a lot of creative software that didn't survive the ppc switch. Back then the chasm between MacOS and Windows for certain workloads was a mile wide and despite all the software lost, which would never be recompiled, users s

Is there any way to model a supply chain as a control system? Like what you're describing is why PID controllers exist and they do a pretty good job of preventing failure conditions.

Short answer: yes Longer answer: it doesn't matter as much as you'd think. These companies making huge layoffs are facing an existential crisis, not slimming down for a revenue shortfall.

Maybe I'm biased but video quality doesn't really bother me nearly as much as audio quality, and Zoom kinda sucks there. Part of it is the codec, but their AEC is so godawful we have to force everyone on calls to use headphones. V

I'll critique the language. Unsafe is a bad name. It doesn't mean "not safe" it means "cannot be verified by the compiler to be memory safe." Some things are inherently unsafe by that definition, including thin

Not sure what your gripe on testing has to do with what the comment is saying. Globals make testing hard. The simple answer is that globals are expensive. Literally, they cost a lot of money. They introduce bugs that are harder to find, rep

Also worth noting the equity they get dilutes existing equity meaning it tends to screw the shareholders (but not as bad as insolvency). This is a good thing when you bail out companies that messed up. If you have a stake in a company you s
