I have attempted to use Lua for shell scripting in the past and I agree with this assessment. I recently started learning Ruby specifically for shell scripting and find it to be the most ergonomic / productive.

A couple bash utilities I use daily(ish) lnks: List, Save, or Instapaper your Google Chrome links from the terminal. It uses a small amount of Applescript, so it is OS X/MacOS only for now. I'm working on getting around this. htt
