Remember that book costs slide downward over time. I got me the complete Sherlock Holmes for a dollar, and a bit of Austen and Dickens for free. I think Neuromancer was about seven dollars, too. So it's not a flat price eating away at you.

There are other methods of judgment, though. Sometimes the judgment is of the product itself. Nobody who's seen me with a Kindle has gone away thinking anything other than "This is somebody who reads hardcore." They don't get an idea of wh

I'm sure you can make a better book if you try. The Kindle isn't, though. It's just very, very good. Today I'm buying the new Dan Brown book because it's so convenient to purchase via Kindle. I'd never buy Dan Brown books physically. They'r

I'd need to see that in writing. Bee Movie after something as monumental as the Seinfeld show? That's a wash-out. Reminds me of the scene in Extras where Ricky Gervais goes to work for Doctor Who.

I'm excited about Windows 7. I just wish there were better ads. The Seinfeld ads weren't hideous, but I can't imagine Crispin thought it would give Microsoft a better name. And Seinfeld's washed out after Bee Movie. My ad prof suggested yes

Apple's most recent ads are definitely pushing it, but they're working. They've taken every attack Microsoft has attempted and reversed it. They're starting to get really obnoxious, but that's because Microsoft got obnoxious first. Are you

If you don't know, other people don't know either, and that means you have a potential market of people. Research is always hard. Nothing exists to tell you exactly what you want to know because your idea is to some degree unique, and the r

One of my professors is the creative director of an ad firm. I asked him what CP+B's plan has been with Microsoft, since their route has really been baffling me. He said that in his mind they're making a mistake by trying to address Apple,

The Flip is already in HD. They're much more flexible than Apple because they have only the one product focus. So far Apple doesn't have a camera good enough to detract from the Flip, and the people who get nanos for the camera won't be in

And the discussion thread, in which I ask this question for the first of many times: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=542291 Half a year ago, jeez. It feels much longer ago than that. It's one of those cyclical HN debates that I always

I'm sure they'll work on a solution. Knowing Facebook, they'll have two solutions that utterly bomb and then one will catch on and look ugly, before they fix it up.

Jesus, you think Facebook will be forgotten for fucking Posterous ? I think the Posterous team is terrific. They add shitloads of features, work hard, and Garry gave me a ton of useful advice when I applied to YC. But you're comparing a fa

Agreed agreed agreed. I'm a huge Apple fan, I root for them loudly and occasionally drunkenly, but they don't rule video. The nano release was a backstep for them in that it doesn't unify their product category. If they'd released a camera

Apple's not exactly on the defensive, but I do think their Get A Mac campaign is nearly at an end. They're sniping with those. I much prefer their industrial design commercials. This ad was unexpectedly great.

I'm sorry. I will never use an adjective again. For the record, I don't think the design is sparse or stark. For me, sparse is something like NowDoThis, and stark is something like Daring Fireball. But if it conforms to your particular idea

I wish there were more LPs available out the door: I don't like the current selection, but I'd kill for a Tubular Bells LP done in this vein. I can't wait till this catches on and there are thousands of LPs to pick from. This is the sort
