It's not. It's in a document proposing a more complex approach. The point of that discussion, which is clear in the original text, is to identify the benefits of the existing approach and retain them if possible through the transi

I'm not claiming that all ARM licensees use ARM cores. Rather, if ARM stopped offering competitive core designs (or limited them to just Nvidia), it would have a big impact on the ecosystem. A few players doing otherwise doesn't c

(2) is untrue. Most players use ARM core designs, not just the instruction set. Qualcomm used to make their own (back in 2014 or so) but hasn't since. Samsung tried after and quit in 2019. The cloud cores are all standard ARM designs (

It was a design goal that monomorphization should always be possible, but Go will not be monomorphizing generic functions to save on compile time / binary bloat (it will instead use GCShape stenciling, see below). I suspect future re

C++ [1], Java [2], Python [3], and even Rust [4] all have static analyzers. There will always be room for analysis that is beyond the compiler's purview. [1] https://clang.llvm.org/extra/clang-tidy/checks/

Why spend the cost on dual X and Y when you can failover to another cluster? For big DC workloads, it is usually, though not always, better to take the higher failure rate than add redundancy.

In most cases there is no parsing ambiguity. In the cases where there are, you need to use parenthesis to clarify.

You can do type X[T any] struct{} func (x *X[T]) Method() {} just fine. What you can't do is func (x *X[T]) Method[T2 any]() {}

Thanks for the response! I hadn't considered that last trick. If you can make it work well, it will be pretty cool.

I'm a little confused as to why someone would use this. There are a lot of benefits to keeping an entire instance of a service in one DC. BW is plentiful, latency is low, and a whole host of tools are at your disposal. Of course, there

I don't think these efficiencies are just from the node advantage. The fact is that Apple chips follow mobile designs and are highly integrated SoCs where Apple can optimize every aspect of the system in exchange for losing flexibility

You can say the same things about virtualization. Vendors use different virtualization extensions (see AMD-V vs VT-x) but we have interfaces that let us treat them as broadly being the same thing. Likewise virtualization has its fair share

That performance is really impressive. I'm no expert in this space, but I was expecting somewhere around 30% the throughput of a regular DB. They are way higher than that.

cargo is not a compiler, it's a build system. The difference between build systems and compilers is that compilers implement language specs, and build systems do whatever they want. That's the problem with having multiple build sy

C++ uses apostrophes. If you want to use numbers in header files that are common to both C and C++ code, you want the syntax to be the same.

Go will allocate some things on the stack by performing escape analysis. That can be improved, but it's incorrect to say that GC is the only way to manage memory in Go.
