Similar phenomena happens when children encounter mobile robots - although less about ignoring, and more simply aggressive: http://www.sciencespacerobots.com/japanese-study-finds-child... Its going to be interesting to see

For me it's that Zapier has a lot more control over the integration logic - Being able to conditionally operate on Trello fields and Google Sheets columns makes automation much more doable. To me it's like an advanced for of IFTTT

I've been toying with terminology to deal with the idea of a decentralized p2p cloud. Calling it a 'virtual cloud' seems off, and 'fog' has been co-opted by other kinds of tech. Any thoughts on what would be a good

I personally think the real answer is not to have a central device, but to spread it out into a peer2peer 'fog'. There's been some movement in industrial applications via stuff like https://twitter.com/Filamen

It looks like much of code is some simple routines to find and replace elements. Might not take long to recreate it in pure ruby.

My sister works for a place using Mumps. I read the manual she let me borrow and I decided I liked it better than the COBOL I was doing at the time. Then I cried myself to sleep. True story.

I never got the whole "facebook alternative" hype that happened. Social network that uses art sales to support itself? I've been on deviant art since 2005 - well before facebook hit popularity.

Yeah I can hear CRTs anywhere in the house. Drives me crazy how loud they are. CFLS can be pretty bad too. I go out of my way to find amperage controlled LED fixtures because they seem to be the only light source that doesn't hum. Wor

The C shell comes close: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_shell For a while I was running Perl as my shell, it bakes in most common unix commands as top level functions and its easy to call ones that aren't built i

Google Slides program does a good job at multi-user support. I usually export it to PDF on a thumbdrive just in case I don't have internet where I'm at and can't hook up my own computer. Wish it had ooxml support.

Raymond Chen rants about other developers doing stupid things - his job is basically to help them get stuff done in 'the right way' from what I can tell, so he finds a lot of weirdness like this. My impression is that this is a pa

Self organization, when mirroring a biological system (such as our immune system) can be co-opted by cancers and auto-immune causing pathogens. No system is perfect.

I really like your very human approach to things. Do you have any theories on why companies end up doing the opposite of what you've laid out and end up wasting time chasing purple squirrels? I mean, the obvious answer is risk aversion

The affiliate marketing echo chamber is strong, and seems to focus on memes of success and money. Funny how that ends up working out when you actually reach it. Nice to see some great conclusions at the end.
