I suppose, then, that ignorance is bliss. Because once I explained Windows 10 telemetry to my own parents, they opted to run Linux. They're nowhere even close to the penumbra of the nerd sphere. But, it is anecdotal, though it does

I have learned many languages. Just because I adore Java doesn't mean I despise everything else. I just happen to prefer it and have no reason, at this time, to use anything else for server-side work.

Wholeheartedly agree. Kids coming out of college/university these days seem to think that if something isn't brand new/fresh, that it's old, outdated, useless junk. The truth is, Java as a language and as a platform (J

That's great for you. Java works quite well for me and I've had no need to go elsewhere for a server-side language in the last five years. And what do you consider are ad-hoc frameworks? Spring is hardly ad-hoc.

It's wonderful how much you know me. Funny thing is I know many programming languages (Java, Scala, Javascript, C++, C#, and a few others I've had dealings with). I also like Java AND the JVM. The difference between you and me,

I adore Java! It has been a skill I’ve used at a few jobs now and I wouldn’t want to do anything else. If people get upset about your opinions, then that’s their problem.

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro, i7-6core, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD. I can run Ubuntu in Parallels without issue (or VirtualBox without much issue). Parallels does run the laptop a little warm, but that’s all. I came from an ASUS ROG g751jy which was

So how do we truly know if we're affected? OpticsML claims they are "working to notify all affected parties", but they have lost all trust and credibility, so I'm not holding my breath.

Windows performance is abysmal. Instead of beating around the bush, they should just state that it is the combination of everything that makes Windows dog slow compared to either Mac or Linux. Someone said it on that thread, but Windows r

I completely agree. I feel the same about MS buying Github, too. We are seeing so much consolidation in so many markets, the only true outcome will be that it will be a worse environment for the rest of us.

Can you explain the difference? I’ve written many RESTlike APIs (no hypermedia) and they mostly returned data. In fact, the whole premise is to be able to access resources which typically boils down to some data model response.

The difference is that REST is more opinionated on the server for what gets returned, and how it is returned. With GraphQL, that power is in the client request. And allowing the client to dictate the full scope of data to be loaded on the
