There are numerous problems. Comcast packet shaping in the late aughts. Zero-rated services. Lack of competition. Regional monopolies. High prices due to monopolies. Data caps. Downgraded service due to going over data caps. But I su

Name one innovation that occurred because of Net Neutrality repeal? That was the other side's argument -- that Net Neutrality hindered innovation. The last four years, I've seen nothing but stagnation in the industry, except for

"Disney announced a lot of their big plans for the future in a huge investor presentation last week, but they didn’t announce all of them. There’s one property that I’ve been hearing whispers about that didn’t get mentioned. That prope

Get Blizzard games (WoW especially) to work perfectly all the time with minimal effort, and I'm down to switch for good. I tried VFIO (lots of effort), and it worked great for Blizzard games, but showed massive frame loss in games lik

I’m not at all contesting your reasons, which I expect were plentiful enough to build this system. I’m simply saying that if I want to use Java’s static type system, I’ll just write in Java. Perhaps I’m an old codger these days in my ripe

Yeah, I'm not sure I get it either. More power to the author for solving a problem they may have, but I have yet, in my 20+ years experience with Java, had a need to do this kind of code embedding in the source code (whether in commen

Different market, different historical reasons, and typically a much smaller user base for MacOS than the iPhone. Also, “sideloaded” apps on MacOS are most certainly suspect in Apple’s eyes, so much so they put opt-in requirements around th

It’s very simple: support. Apple does not want to take any more needless support calls than they have to. When you run a trillion dollar company that handles, I would speculate, tens or hundreds of thousands of active support tickets, and

And you use RequestTracker for software development? A simple glance at their website clearly shows to me that it's a tool to manage customer-facing ticketing mainly (allowing integration via email addresses). Linear's purpose is

Because it’s not just any TLD. It’s one of the very few special ones that has a very clearly defined origination and governance (well it did for the first decade or so at least). Capitalism + the underpinnings of the Internet don’t exactly

I’ve read plenty on the subject. I don’t have to articulate bullet points about it just to suit your needs. It has obviously been to the detriment of honest political discourse and is completely wrong. Thanks, though.

The enormous amount of money now in politics clearly shows just how wrong it was. The ACLU isn’t always right, either.

The audio delay on Google Voice is too horrible for an impatient person like myself. I’d love this feature baked into phones. Odd that it’s not yet.

I agree, that’s an annoying bug/feature. However, there is an amazingly easy workaround, assuming the IP and port don’t change often: create a ~/bin shell script that connects via IP and port, make it executable, and add ~/bi

You're not wrong, but to be fair, the CDC has to fight for funding all the time. If Trump gets his way with his budget proposals, it'll only get worse.

Can we self-host, please? Is there a standalone app? We deal in PHI (HIPAA) and we cannot have a tool like this have any access to our data store unless it's private and secure.

The author of the article isn't really referring to binaries. NNTP was wonderful for text-based discussion. It still could be, but not having moderation to alleviate spam/etc is a real concern.
