There’s no engineering analysis in this post, so those of us who were looking for that, let me save you the click Be born to the right people and toe the party line. That’s what Brian’s story will show you. But that’s basically a cliche rig

Managers taking responsibility for anything going wrong is basically taboo today. Weird to see people even mention that even in the past.

So people lost weight and these people have “no idea why?” Well, ok, it’s calories, but why even bother to have any sort of study about this? Of course people who don’t know about calories would think they invented a whole new idea and meth

I don’t think it’s the phones, because a lot of us here were hooked on the internet (cellphones, laptops, forums, message boards, Usenet, email newsletter, rss, etc) from a very early age and we didn’t come out thinking that monogamy was de

They actually were better back then which is what drives people crazy. I think it’s because the older generations (us) didn’t put any value in tradition, so we weren’t able to preserve ours.

The Aladdin fallacy. Everyone who steals is driven to it by desperate circumstances. But if you read the article, dire straits means the liquor aisle or the electronics section.

I’ve seen far more contention, gossip, and backbiting behavior in secular groups, saying this as someone who didn’t go back to religion until only a few years ago. Let’s not pretend that being secular somehow makes you levitate or something

I had a motorcycle accident a few years back that left me hooked on opiates for a while, so I have some first-hand experience there. You can cut your use about 50% pretty nicely a couple of times at first, but the lower you go the more that

That's a good point, and I think it is because it wasn't as powerful as other drugs. Cannabis today is far stronger than even 20 years ago if you go by old hippie lore. We do know people ate magic mushrooms and used psychedelics a

Paraphrasing liberally from the study, looks like it wasn't used as a medicinal herb in the past, but recreationally. I'm assuming that's because opiates and alcohol use were widespread, and those are stronger analgesics and

It depends on the context. For example, fashion for men and women was all pretty wild in post-war America (imo, specifically during the 80s), but stayed pretty colorful throughout the 2000s, until this decade. Since the ruling classes have

It’s a leading question, likely political, trying to pose innovation as some sort of universal good when engineers intuitively ask “what” exactly they mean by that, as evidenced by this post. Any engineer knows intuitively that the answer w

In that case you’re probably alright with the rewrite. My opinion is to stick to React and rewrite the parts you think are nasty. That’s only because this can turn into a real rabbit hole in my experience. But at that size maybe it won’t be
