Wha…? I’m doing nothing like that. Nothing. The actual issue is the slur. I do not really understand how anyone can think it’s not a slur.

It’s not so hard. It’s probably best to quote what the author wrote in the comments of her post: “‘Golden Uterus Complex’ is a slur against women. It‘s not even a real psychiatric term, just slang. It dismisses all women who have real life

It could be a bit smoother, though. When you launch Java you just have to click twice (once to install, a second time to accept the terms), wait a few seconds until it downloads and installs, and you are done. Everyone can do that, it’s smo

The premise is bullshit. Lego now also sells specialized sets (though even those were toned down in recent years). Also is the important word here. It offers a wider variety of sets, much wider than in past decades. (Though the late ninet

Sure – but it’s much harder to make that argument. I do think that the Tweet dialog is awesome and fits perfectly. I also cannot see how the paperclip negatively influences usability. I just cannot. It seems extremely implausible to me. Whe

Funny thing you would write that, I actually wanted to include that in my comment but completely forgot about it when I finished the second paragraph. Yes, the exclusive access to those APIs is indeed pretty clear evidence to the contrary.

To show that they are actually on a slippery slope you have to point to facts that would lead Apple to make decisions to that effect. You have to substantiate why they are slipping. It still remains only a prediction, but it at least become

It is. But you have it backwards. Skeumorphism is the code. He simply used words that people might actually understand, you know. Good, this echo chamber can be annoying.

First and foremost: Aesthetics are subjective. You cannot plausibly tell me that the Twitter dialog has bad usability because you don’t like its aesthetics, at least not without extensive usability testing. You might not like the aesthetics

If it’s only a skin there really is no problem (except if the skin makes it harder to identify standard UI elements). It’s only when skeumorphism impacts behavior that it becomes a serious usability issue. For example: The Address Book used

I think it’s right to make very clear that Apple overstepping that line would be inexcusable and evil, or else they might think people would be ok with that. So a bit of outrage isn’t altogether a bad thing, really. (Although it’s pretty ob

That’s really annoying. If so many developers weren’t so stupid and evil, strict guidelines from Apple and social pressure could easily solve this. Isn’t that how it’s solved on the desktop (minus the guidelines)? Yes, I can see that an App

The app programmers do have to take the blame. Those breaches of privacy have always been possible on desktop PCs but app programmers usually didn’t do them because that would make them a pariah. I do not know why developers for mobile apps

What scratches? My five – soon six – year old MBP doesn’t have any scratches. It has dents and some sort of strange chemical reaction happened where my palm usually rests, leaving a spot with small black pits. Aluminium is prone to denting.

I’m worried about private subreddits. Admins, however, can see what’s going on inside them so I don’t see that as much of a problem.
