What business is there to lose? For example: No restaurant will go bankrupt or even perceptibly lose money because blind people can’t read the menu on their website. There are too few of them. Also: Getting accessibility right would be cost

Packets are usually delivered during work hours. That’s certainly a use case. (One of the reasons why packet delivery still sucks from time to time is that you often cannot be sure that you are home when the packet is delivered.)

Some of the R&D. The world is a big, big place. Tablets are not some big black hole that suck away all brainpower from all other tasks.

Getting rare music through file sharing sucked. I know it, I was trying to get it. The iTunes music store has a greater selection of rare music than any file sharing I ever tried in the early 2000s. Of course, unless devices like tablets c

Way of missing the point. Also: There were no podcasts and hardly any blogs a decade ago. Both exist today (in their massive numbers) because the tools for content creation and distribution have become simpler to use and cheaper.

No it wasn’t. The iPad is the wrong tool for creating that stuff. But it is awesome for consumption. Argh. This is sooooo frustrating. Why does everyone believe that it’s either the iPad or nothing? That just doesn’t make any sense at all.

You do know Napster? You do know The Pirate Bay? People want access to mainstream music, mainstream videos and mainstream books, no matter the device. If the big companies don’t give it to them people will go to great lengths to get said ac

At least Apple, I think, sells music and videos and books and apps because people want them. Sure, they make some money (not much compared to the rest of the business) but they mostly do it to turn their devices into something people actual

The iPad and other tablets are not great tools for writing. Emails or comments on HN (another one of those things that wasn’t possible for very many people one or two decades ago) work great, longer or more complicated stuff quite often not

Wha? If I want to create I can. It’s never been as easy as today. You are creating a false dichotomy. The content I was consuming on my iPad – and that was my point – did not come from a central authority (no more than before when I consume

We're going back to something more like the broadcast television model, where a more or less centralized authority produces the content for passive users to consume. That’s the sentence I was responding to. Central authority bullshit and

Yes, I do that stuff. I have always done it. I now do it on a more appropriate device. It’s consumption and it’s fun. Not something to scoff at. (Mine was more a response to the central authority bullshit which is obvious nonsense.) It does

Improving consumption doesn’t imply much about creation. So what if consumption is easier? Does that mean less people will create something? Why? Creating something doesn’t get harder because consumption gets easier. I don’t see the causal

I don't think it's very likely that Apple will sell two devices with (significantly) different screen sizes and exactly the same UI. They would either increase the size or stick to it, not do both at the same time (at least if the UI remain

Do you really believe that the skillset that qualifies one to design the Apple II similarily qualifies one to design iPads and iPhones? I find that rather hard to believe. (Also: You shouldn't read anything into my statements that I did not

The devices that will shape Apple's future all run on ARM. Macs are important but not where the innovation is. I have serious doubts whether Wozniak could lead the design of a lighter, more powerful and more energy efficient iPad.

It's all so extremely hard to judge. I don't plan on ever taking small decisions like this one into account when I evaluate Cook. Not because it's not valuable information, I just feel that you would have to be Steve Jobs to judge whether s

I can’t, actually, I’m not a developer, but that’s very much besides the point. I don’t think something should be protected from criticism just because it’s free. Just because it’s open source doesn’t mean I have to try to fix it before I’m

I’m not outraged, more amused. Wikileaks has to take responsibility and communicate better. Especially their communication has been a disaster. If they want to be a respected whistleblower website they have to show that they are competent.

This is ridiculous. I don’t know how any whistleblower could trust Wikileaks after what has happened during the last few weeks. There clearly is a need for a competent whistleblower website. Wikileaks has shown itself to be incapable of fil

Again, I’m opposed to punishment for punishment’s sake and civil law doesn’t really have anything to do with that. Of course you should be entitled to damages if someone steals something from you. Paying damages isn’t really what I would ca
