I’m not really sure whether that’s Apple’s goal in the first place. Realistically the vast majority of people is not going to buy a new phone every year. Apple is not selling the iPhone to a handful crazy devotees, those are (at least by no

It’s perfectly alright to believe that they assembled this in the last minute. It’s a bit naive to believe that they created all the content in the last minute. (Some of the content, however, most certainly had to be created in the last

Exactly. There is nothing that would stop us from making smartphones water resistant and shock resistant and sowing them into clothes. It’s not that we don’t do it because it’s impossible, we don’t do it because it’s a stupid idea.

What do you mean? Smartphones are obviously wearable computers and they already exist.

And they needed an analyst to find that out? I thought Apple was quite clear about that in their presentation, there was no way any alert listener could have missed that. Siri has the potential to be awesome because of that if it works well

Meh. As if that matters. It’s not really a common use case and I don’t see it becoming one. Flash will die and then rot in its niche.

Certainly. Quite often actually. Especially during the last years it were, for example, often the leading engineers themselves who demoed their software. In his public appearances I followed (all post-2000) I never ever had the feeling that

My argument doesn’t require me to lead by example. I’m some random commenter. And since you understood me perfectly well there doesn’t seem to be a problem in this specific case.

I think I’m justified in saying that someone is clueless about communication if that person honestly believes that a statement by a very public spokesperson in any public place – no matter how obscure – will or should remain obscure. That’s

This is a serious question, no sarcasm: What would not have been a marginal update? I’m not quite sure myself. The iPhone 4 was clearly a major update compared to the iPhone 3GS: On the outside the design and materials improved. The resolut

What matters is not confusing customers. I think thought patterns like yours might be responsible for all those cryptic product names we are faced with all the time ;-)

Meh. Apple has at various times failed to control expectations (iPad, MacBook Air). It’s a failure, sure, but I wouldn’t read too much into it. In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter all that much. (I think Gruber predicted an unch

Let me break it down further: There was the original iPhone sans number. Then there was the second iPhone described by the standards it supported (“3G”) and a faster version of said iPhone with an added “S”. Imagine an alternate timeline wh

That’s logical if you insist on looking at it that way but it would be utterly stupid to actually do. It would confuse people. I don’t know what the next iPhone will be called but I’m willing to bet that it won’t be “iPhone 6”.

Great fun! I also like that you can submit your own version if you think it’s better. It’s a nice touch that visibly acknowledges the subjectiveness of the game.

What?! I think Stallman has always been pretty clear about what he wants. It’s not clarity that he lacks as a spokesperson.
