Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think that keeping existing open source projects open source is all Stallman wants. Do you honestly believe that his comments help push for more free software? I don’t.

The problem is that Stallman is a very public spokesperson for free software and he does an absolutely terrible job. It’s impossible to ignore the effects he has in his role and they are terrible.

I thought nearly everyone with internet or web socialization was for paper voting and squarely against any kind of anonymous machine voting? That doesn’t strike me as an unusual view at all, it seems like the most common view to me.

No, I don’t think Stallman furthers his goals in any way.

Stallman is as clueless about communication as ever. That’s no way to convince people.

It’s a valuable goal but just that. A goal. It’s necessary to be pragmatic in the meantime. No point in dreaming. (If you didn’t notice, we are talking about the web here.)

What’s the alternative? I know of no PPI-aware way of specifying font size.

You can’t please all the people all the time. MP3 players sucked. You had to manually copy music onto them or use the absolutely crappy music libraries that came with them. With the iPod you have your nicely organized music library and you

Wha? The iPod was an industry dominating hit. That’s a fact, not revisionism. A look at its marketshare over the years suffices. Also: iTMS. It changed the music industry. To claim otherwise would be absurd.

Not sure ’bout that. During the event they only explicitly pointed out that voice recognition is happening on Apple’s servers when they talked about dictation. They introduced that as if it were something new and unique for the dictation pa

Germany is split in three (35% no religion, 30% catholic, 30% protestant), Greek Orthodoxy is prevalent in Greece. There is nothing particular protestant about Germany and there is nothing particular catholic about Greece.

Apple's plan is to obsolete the current iPods by continuing to sell them. What?!

It's about compromise. A smartphone with a one inch screen would be an obviously stupid idea, as would a smartphone with a ten inch screen. Seen that way "bigger is better" or "smaller is better" doesn't even make sense. My claim is: 3.5 in

Why do you think that a larger screen is objectivly better? It's all about personal preference. I despise those phones with large screens.

Execution. Execution. Execution. iDisk offered essentially what Dropbox offers. iDisk sucked, Dropbox doesn’t. I’m not saying the execution is great (I simply cannot know that at this point in time), I’m saying that execution is extremely i

Apple doesn’t do that (all that often). If they like a design they are willing to stick to it. MacBook Pro. Mac Pro.

Why? I think that notifications systems on the desktop are not useful and a distraction. Apple probably thinks similarly about them.

I’m curious why you seem to think that Fitt’s law doesn’t apply to touch interfaces. Sure, certain concepts can’t be translated 1:1 (like infinite sized targets at screen edges) but even those have somewhat similar counterparts in touch int

Nah, thank you. I think I will rather just continue buying my OS. I’m not really willing to invest more time than just trying it out from time to time nor do I understand why I should be.

So, what’s with Linux and margins? I thought they had solved that by now but nope, the margins are still all over the place, inconsistent and visually distracting. I feel this is even more apparent now that they dialed up the margins even m
